52 Relatives: 2nd Great-GrandUncle Samuel Rich (1830-1914) of Hilperton, Wiltshire and Putnam, Connecticut

 Samuel Rich was born 28 February 1833 in Hilperton, Wiltshire, England, the 11th child (and last) and 7th son of John and Rebecca (Hill) Rich.[1]  He was baptized in the Hilperton Church of England on 19 February 1837 parish church by curate J. Bailes.[1]  His father was listed as a weaver.

Samuel Rich (age 21, origin England) and James Richman (age 34, origin England) were passengers on the ship Calhoun out of Liverpool, England, arriving in New York on 22 October 1855.[2]  James Richman was Samuel's brother-in-law (the husband of Hannah Rich, Samuel's older sister).  They settled first in Rhode Island and then in Putnam, Windham County, Connecticut.

In the 1860 US Census, Samuel Rich resided in Burrilville, Providence County, Rhode Island with the Joseph Gaisford family (Joseph was the husband of Samuel's older sister, Sarah Rich):[3]

Samuel and Annie (Thornton) Rich had two children:

Samuel Rich and his family moved to Putnam, Windham County, Connecticut, perhaps in 1864 after marrying Annie D. Thornton.

In the 1870 United States Census, the Samuel Rich family resided in Putnam, Windham County, Connecticut.[4]  The household included:

===========================================

Samuel Rich (1833-1897) is my 2nd great-granduncle and brother of my 2nd great-grandmother, Hannah Rich (1824-1911).

I have posted over 500 genealogical sketches of  my ancestors back through the 7th great-.grandparents and a number of close relatives.  Information about his father, John Rich (1790-1868) is in 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks - Week 35: #42 John Rich (1791-1868).

The "52 Relatives" theme is a weekly series to document the lives of siblings of my ancestors with relatively short genealogical sketches, including important events, and with source citations.  These relatives lived and died within a family structure, and deserve a genealogical sketch - they were integral parts and important persons in the lives of my ancestral families.

I add links to the 52 Ancestors and 52 Relatives sketches on the 52 Ancestors/Relatives Biographies page, in my Ancestry Member Tree, in WikiTree, and in the FamilySearch Family Tree.
