In the Name of God amen

The thirtyn day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred

and nineteen I Nathaniel Tompkins of Littlecompton in y'e county of Bristoll

in his Majesties Province of Massachusetts Bay in Newengland Cordwinder

being of perfect minde & memory thanks be given unto God: therefor caling

unto mind y'e mortality of my Body & knowing y't is is appointed for all men

one to Dye Do make & ordain this my last Will & testament: That is to say

principally and first of all I give & Recommend my soul in to y'e hands of

God tha gave it and my Body I Recommend to y'e Earth to be Buried in

Decent & Christian manner att y'e Discretion of my Executors nothing doubting

but att y'e general Resurrection I shall recive y'e same again by y'e almighty

power of God: And touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased god

to bless me in this life I give Demise & Dispose of y'e same in y'e following maner and form.

Imprimus I give and bequeth to my well beloved Son Nathaniel Tompkins the sum of fifteen pounds

of Lawfull money of s'd province to be paid by my Executor within four years after my deceas

itt  I give to my well beloved son Samuell Tompkins whom I likewise Constitute make & ordaine

my sole Executor of this my last will & testiment all & singular all my Lands that

I have not allready given him by deed to him his heirs and assigns for ever: rata-

fieng & confirming that former deed of gift that I gave him.

itt  I give to my well beloved Daughter Elizabeth the wife of William Lad one cow to be

delivered to her after my deceas.

itt I give to my well beloved daughter Mary Tompkins the sum of thirty shiling in

mony to be paid her by my Executor within one year after my Deseass and also fouer

pounds in mony that I borrowed of her: with that Bead she now lodges on with

the furniture belonging to it.

itt I give to my well beloved Daughter presilla wife of Samuel Lindall one cow to be

delivered to her after my decease.

itt I give to my well beloved daughter Marcy the wife of Benjamin Gifford one

Cow to be delivered to her after my decease.

itt I give to my well beloved daughter Rebeccah Tompkins one cow and my

bead that I now lodge on with y'e furniture belonging to it to be delivered

to her after my decease.

itt I give to my Wellbeloved Daughter Hannah y'e wife of Thimothy Gefferd

one Cow to be delivered to her after my decease.

And my Will further is that after all the above named Legacies be all paid and

all of my just depts & funerall Charges be discharged that if there be any of my

Estate remaining in my Executors hands undisposed of my will is that it be

Eaquely devided betwene my son Samuels three sons viz. Josep, John & Christopher

and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke & disanull all& every other former Testa-

ments & Wills Legacies & bequests & Executors by me in any ways before named Willed

and bequeathed Ratifying & Confirming this & no other to be my Last will & testament

Nathaniel Tompkins was born about 1650, probably in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, the son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Goodman) Tompkins.  He died before 19 May 1724, when his will was proved, in Little Compton (which was then in Bristol County, Massachusetts. He married Elizabeth Allen (1651-1714) on 15 January 1670/1 in Newport, Rhode Island.  They had ten children:

*  Robert Tompkins (1673-????).

*  Elizabeth Tompkins (1675-after 1729), married 1696 William Ladd (1665-1729).

*  Nathaniel Tompkins (1676-1748, married 1696 Elizabeth Ladd (1676-????).

*  Mary Tompkins (1677-????).

*  Priscilla Tompkins (1679-1732), married 1703 Samuel Lyndon (1676-1750).

*  Samuel Tompkins (1681-1760), married 712 Sarah Coe (1685-1741).

*  Rebecca Tompkins (1683-????).

*  Mercy Tompkins (1685-1736), married 1707 William Bowdish (1673-1753).

*  Sarah Tompkins (1689-????, married 1709 Benjamin Gifford (1685-1754).

*  Hannah Tompkins (1695-1773), married 1717 Timothy Gifford (1691-1780).

The will of Nathaniel Tompkins of Little Compton was dated 13 May 1719, and proved on 19 May 1724 in Bristol County, Massachusetts Probate Court (at the time, Little Compton was part of Massachusetts Bay Colony).  His son Samuel Tompkins was named as executor.  He named as legatees each of his living children.   All of them were to receive either money, furniture and/or a cow. After the legacies were paid, he gave all the residue and remainder to his son Samuel's three sons.  The witnesses to the will were Warren Gells [?], William Briggs and Nathaniel Searls. The estate was appraised at 87 pounds, 10 shillings, 6d. 

Nathaniel Tompkins (1650-1724) is my 8th great grandfather through his daughter Elizabeth Tompkins (1675-after 1729).
