Wordly Wednesday: Family Photographs - Post 72: David D. Smith on the Telephone

I'm posting old family photographs from my collection on Wednesdays, but they won't be wordless Wednesday posts like others do - I simply am incapable of having a wordless post.

This photograph is from the collection of pictures given to me by my mother during the 1988 to 2002 time period:

This photograph was taken in about 1916 in San Diego, California. The subject in this photo is David Devier Smith, born 15 October 1863 in Rolling Prairie, Dodge County, Wisconsin, died 2 February 1920 in San Diego, San Diego County, California. Davie was the son of Devier J. Lamphear and Abigail (Vaux) Smith, and the only brother of my great-grandmother Abbie Ardell (Della) (Smith) Carringer.

Check out that modern telephone. Davie sure looks happy to be talking to someone on that newfangled communication device, doesn't he? Or maybe he's grinning because someone told him a joke.

Look at that nifty pinstripe suit too, with a solid color tie. I wonder what color the suit was - black, brown, blue?
