1) Have you found a common document or record (e.g., vital record, military record, probate record, etc.) that provided new and/or unique information to one or more of your ancestors? How did it affect your research? Please share your find.

Here's mine:
My favorite record type is still probate records, so I will share one that changed the trajectory of my genealogy research.
My best research achievement in 2016 was finding many of the extended family members of Elizabeth Auble (1814-1899) after receiving her will in an Ancestry Hint. She was a spinster, had no spouses or children, but was the sister of my 2nd great-grandfather, David Auble. Through research about the relatives mentioned in this will I added four more Auble siblings to my database, and identified many Auble line relatives. I wrote about this in a series of blog posts:

As a result of this research find, I decided to pursue descendancy research to find cousins of mine descended from all of my 4th great-grandparents in order to enrich my family tree and to help identify common ancestors of my autosomal DNA matches. It's been a long journey, but fun and enlightening, and I am still not done. For the Auble family, I have most of the descendants of John and Sophia (Trimmer) Auble born before 1950, but a family tree is never done.
