===========================================

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to  https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

My friend, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED.  Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link).  It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Ancestors Trans-Continental Travel (not by Airplane)

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment if you choose to play along (cue the Mission Impossible music, please!):

1)  Each week, The Weekly Genealogist (published by NEHGS) asks a survey question, and readers respond to the question, usually just selecting one of the answer options, and sometimes with paragraphs of information.  Reader Janice Sellers suggested using this week's question.

2)  On 24 July, the question was:  Have you or any of your ancestors traveled across the United States by car, train, wagon, or some other form of transportation that was not an airplane? (You can decide what constitutes a cross-country trip but since the distance from the east coast to the west coast ranges from 2,500 to 3,500 miles, depending on the route, we suggest it should be at least 1,500 miles. Canadian cross-country trips also count.)

3)  Answer the question above in your own blog post, in a comment on this post, or in a Facebook post.

Here's mine:

*  I have not made a cross-country trip from West to East, but I have driven from San Diego to Vancouver, B>C. and back (about 1,400 miles each way).

*  My father, Frederick W. Seaver drove from Leominster, Mass. to San Diego in 3 days in December 1940, escaping "shoveling snow for his sister" or maybe "ending a torrid love affair," or both! He sent a letter from Columbus, Ohio to his aunt Emily (Richmond) Taylor in San Diego saying he was on his way.  He claimed he didn't sleep during the trip (about 3,000 miles).

*  My grandmother, Alma Bessie (Richmond) Seaver (1882-1962) rode with her daughter Evelyn and son-in-law Walter Wood (and their granddaughter, my cousin Diana) from Leominster, Massachusetts to San Diego in the summer of 1959 by automobile (about 3,000 miles).  This was the only time I met my grandmother in my life.

*  My great-grandfather Henry Austin Carringer (1853-1946) moved from Mercer County, Pennsylvania in 1859 to Louisa County, Iowa (by wagon or by boat?), then to Boulder, Colorado in 1873 (by wagon?), then to San Diego in 1887 on his honeymoon (by train I think).  This totals about 2,500 miles.

*  My great-grandmother, Della (Smith) Carringer (1862-1944) moved from Dodge County, Wisconsin to Taylor County, Iowa in 1868 (by wagon?), then to Concordia, Kansas in 1873 (by wagon?), then to McCook, Nebraska in 1885 (by wagon?), and then to San Diego in 1887 by trasin with her husband, Henry Austin Carringer.  The total distance was about 2,100 miles.

* My great-grandmother Georgianna (Kemp) Auble (1868-1952) moved from Norfolk County, Ontario to Chicago, Illinois in the 1890s (by wagon and boat?), then moved to San Diego in the 1911 time frame (by train?), a total distance of about 2,500 miles.

*  My 2nd great-grandparents, David J. Carringer (1828-1902) and Rebecca (Spangler) Carringer (1832-1901) did the same moves as Henry Austin Carringer, but came to San Diego in about 1899.

*  My 2nd great-grandmother Abigail (Vaux) Smith (1844-1931) moved from Aurora, New York to Dodge County, Wisconsin before 1860 (by boat and wagon?), married there in 1861, then moved to Taylor County, Iowa in about 1868 (by wagon?), then moved to Concordia, Kansas in about 1874 (by wagon?), then moved to McCook, Nebraska in 1885 (by wagon?), and then moved to San Diego in the 1890s (by train?).  The total distance was probably about 2,700 miles.

*  My 2nd great grandfather Devier J. Lamphier Smith (1839-1894) moved from Henderson, N.Y. to Dodge County, Wisconsin in the 1840s (by boat and wagon?), then to Taylor County, Iowa, Concordia, Kansas and McCook, Nebraska with his wife Abigail (Vaux) Smith after their marriage in 1861.  He died in McCook, Nebraska.  The total distance was probably about 1,700 miles.

I didn't consider trans-ocean routes that my immigrant ancestors took between Europe and North America.

Thank you to Janice Sellers for suggesting this question for SNGF!

Surname Saturday -- LNU (Grace married Ellis Barron, England/Ireland to colonial Massachusetts)

It's Surname Saturday, and I'm "counting down" my Ancestral Name List each week.

I am working in the 9th great-grandmothers by Ahnentafel number, and I am up to Ancestor #2333 who is Grace LNU (1605-1643). [Note: the more recent ancestral families have been covered in earlier posts.]

My ancestral line back through one generation in this LNU family line is:

1. Randall J. Seaver

2. Frederick Walton Seaver (1911-1983)
3. Betty Virginia Carringer (1919-2002)

4. Frederick Walton Seaver (1876-1942)
5. Alma Bessie Richmond (1882-1962)

8. Frank Walton Seaver (1852-1922)
9. Hattie Louise Hildreth (1857-1920)

18.  Edward Hildreth (1831-1899)
19.  Sophia Newton (1834-1923)

36.  Zachariah Hildreth (1783-1857)
37.  Hannah Sawtell (1789-1857)

72.  Zachariah Hildreth (1754-1829)
73.  Elizabeth Keyes (1759-1793)

144.  Zachariah Hildreth (1724-1784)
145.  Elizabeth Prescott (1734-1812)

290.  Jonas Prescott (1704-1784)
291.  Elizabeth Harwood (1701-1739)

582.  Nathaniel Harwood (1669-1751)
583.  Mary Barron (1673-1758)

1166.  Moses Barron (1643-1699)
1167.  Mary Learned (1647-????)

2332.  Ellis Barron, born 1605 in Waterford, Ireland; died 30 October 1676 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.  He married before 1631 in probably Ireland.

2333.  Grace LNU, born about 1605 in England; died after 01 March 1643 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.

Children of Ellis Barron and Grace are:
*  Mary Barron (1631-1716), married 1650 Daniel Warren (1627-1707).
*  Ellis Barron (1633-1712), married (1) 1653 Hannah Hawkins (1636-1674); (2) 1674 Lydia Prescott (1641-1712).
*  Susanna Barron (1635-1673), married 1653 Stephen Randall (1628-1708).
*  Hannah Barron (1637-1680), married 1658 Simon Coolidge (1632-1693).
*  John Barron (1638-1693), married 1664 Elizabeth Hunt (1636-1704).
*  Sarah Barron (1640-1699), married 1671 Pheasant Eastwick (1642-1717).
Moses Barron (1643-1699), married 1669 Mary Learned (1647-????).

There is no clear evidence of Grace (--?--) Barron's maiden name or parents.  Some online trees say she was Grace Hawkins.

I have these resources for the Barron families:

*  Patty Barthell Myers, Ancestors and Descendants of Lewis Ross Freeman with related families, based partially on the work of Freeman Worth Gardiner and Willis Freeman (Camden, Me.: Penobscot Press, 1995), page 482.

*  Eugene Diven Buchanan, "The Ellis Barron Family," The American Genealogist, Volume 20, number 2 (October 1943).

*  Dean Crawford Smith, edited by Melinde Lutz Sanborn, The Ancestry of Eva Belle Kempton, 1878-1908, Part I: The Ancestry of Warren Francis Kempton (1817-1879) (Boston, Mass.: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1996), pages 119 to 131.

I have done no original research on the Barron family.

New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday, 26 July 2019

I received this information from Findmypast today:

                          ==================================================

New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday
Billion Graves Cemetery Indexes
Pinpoint your ancestor's final resting place with new additions to our Billion Graves Cemetery Indexes. Our latest update includes:
·       Over 2.6 million new additions to the United States Billion Graves Cemetery Index
·       Over 214,000 new additions to the Canada Billion Graves Cemetery Index
·       Over 114,000 new additions to the England Billion Graves Cemetery Index

·       Over 323,000 new additions to the Australia Graves Cemetery Index
·       Over 71,000 new additions to the New Zealand Billion Graves Cemetery Index
Cemetery records are of great importance in discovering where and when your ancestor died. They can also provide you with information regarding their birth and marriage dates.
With an abundance of cemeteries, it can be overwhelming trying to pinpoint the precise cemetery in which your ancestor was laid to rest, and visiting each potential location is costly. However, in partnering with BillionGraves, we aim to make available all the cemetery records held on their site for free, saving you time and money as you search for your ancestor. BillionGraves is the largest resource for GPS-tagged headstone and burial records on the web, with over 12 million headstone records.
Over 4,500 records of burials that took place at St Martin's church in Cheriton are now available to search. These new additions cover two periods, 1843 to 1855 and 1907 to 1958. Search these records to discover where and when your ancestor was buried, as well as the names of their spouse and father.
These records constitute a valuable resource for researching ancestry in Kent and have been provided in association with Canterbury Cathedral Archives, Kent County Council, the North West Kent Family History Society, Folkestone & District Family History Society and Val Brown. For a full list of all parishes and date ranges currently covered, view our parish list.
The 1821 Orkney census, taken on the night of 18 May, was part of the third decennial census taken in the UK. Each result include both a transcript and image of the original documents. The 1821 Orkney census was taken on the night of 18 May 1821. It was the third decennial census for the UK.
Enumerators around the country were responsible for creating an accurate records of the number of people living in their area. However, and fortunately for genealogists and family historians, the enumerator for south Ronaldsay and Burray, schoolmaster Peter Nicholson McLaren, decided to make full lists of names. He records the names along with ages and occupations. The Orkney Islands are located off the northern coast of Scotland, between the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
Search for your Finnish ancestors in three indexes of more than six million baptisms, marriages and burials between 1657 and 1909. These transcripts will also generate hints against any names stored in your Findmypast Family Tree.
This week we have added 102,572 new pages and two new titles to our collection. This week sees the addition The Queen, or to give it its full title, The Queen, The Ladies' Newspaper and Court Chronicle, a society magazine by Samuel Beeton established in 1861. We also have another new women's title joining The Archive this week – the Women's Gazette and Weekly News. Published in Manchester, this was a 'journal devoted to the social and political position of women.'
Our existing specialist and regional titles have not been neglected either. We have a significant update to the Bristol Times and Mirror, with over 33,000 pages added, covering the years 1897 to 1911.
