Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- How Many Trees or Bushes Are in Your Family Tree Database?

 Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment, should you decide to accept it (you ARE reading this, so I assume that you really want to play along - cue the Mission Impossible music!):

1)  Almost  all of us have genealogy software that we use to manage our research and our family tree.  Some researchers use only an online family tree.  What do you use?

2)  For this week's SNGF, tell us how many "trees" (or "bushes)" you have in your genealogy management program database.  How did you figure it out?  Also, where do you have online trees?

3)  Tell us about it in your own blog post, in a comment to this post, or in a Facebook Status post.
Please leave a link in a comment to this post.

Here's mine:

A)  I use RootsMagic as my desktop genealogy management program.  At presrnt, I have 63,119 profiles in my main database.  RootsMagic has a "Count Trees" in the "Tools" menu, so I used that.  It told me:

Further down the list, it told me that I have 216 different "trees" - many of them are "bushes" and some are real scrawny with 1 or 2 persons in them.

The first one on my list is headed by ". ." - she is the 3rd wife of Robert Seaver (1608-1683) - I don't know why she is #1, but she is.  I don't know her first name or birth surname.  Anyway, there are 51,911 profiles in that tree - these are my ancestral families, including my wife's and my grandchildren's lines.

The others on the list are trees or bushes that I have not connected to my main tree.  Generally, they are from my surname studies for Seaver, Seavers, Sever, Severs, Seever, Seevers, Sevier, Carringer, Vaux, Auble, Richman, Buck, Whittle, and many more.

I also have a number of other RootsMagic databases for friends and clients.

B)  I have 10 Ancestry Member Trees -  including one attached to my DNA (also synced to my RootsMagic database), and another for finding common ancestors of DNA matches, and several for surnames and friend research.

C)  I have 4 trees on MyHeritage - three of my own from different times, one of those is attached to my DNA, and one for friend research.

D)  I have one tree on FamilySearch Genealogies from about 2017.

E)  I have two trees on Findmypast from different times.

E)  I have ancestor-only trees on FamilyTreeDNA and GEDmatch.

=============================================

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, provides this list to me from a program he wrote that compares the current FamlySearch record collections list to the previous week's list.

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link). It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

Blogger Outage on Friday 14 May 2021

I wrote three Genea-Musings blog posts on Friday, 14 May.  They were all online at 3:30 p.m. PDT.

By 4 p.m., they were deleted by Blogger (a Google product) for some reason.  I received an email from Blogger saying they had malware included in them.  Really?

After some discussion on Facebook, I and others figured out that Blogger probably had a malware attack sometime today that infected many blog posts across the system.  Trying to do anything - create a new post, edit a post, etc. - gave me a Red warning page that told me not to try to do anything to get past it.

I decided to let discretion be the better part of valor, so I sat back and waited.  If this post survives the night, then everything will be OK.

What about my three blog posts - the usual 52Ancestors, Findmypast, News and Education posts?  My hope is that they will return as Blogger fixes the problems.  Feedly still has them in their feed, so I copied and pasted the text and images into a MSWord document just in case.  It will take some time to format them if I have to rebuild them in Blogger.

UPDATE - 15 May, 7 a.m.:

Blogger sent emails this morning noting that they had reconsidered the deletions and restored the three blog posts to Draft.  I just posted them again with their original post dates/times.  They are:

4)  NOTES (with source citations as indicated in brackets):

The Foster Genealogy by Frederick Clifton Pierce provides considerable information about the early generations of this Foster family line.  Elizabeth Foster is included in the Joseph and Alice (Gorton) Foster family[1].  She was born 7 October 1673 in Billerica, Massachusetts, the first child of five born to Joseph and Alice (Gorton) Foster[1-3].

Elizabeth Foster married John Wilson (1673-after 1721) on 27 November 1694 in Billerica[1-2,5].  John was the son of John and Johanna (Carter) Wilson of Woburn and Billerica.  They had 13 children, all born and recorded in the Billerica town vital records:

*  John Wilson (1695-1764), married 1722 Jemima Shed (1698-1740).
*  Elizabeth Wilson (1697-1786), married 1721 William Frost (1694-1738).
*  Joseph Wilson (1699-????), married 1732 Sarah Wilson (1694-1763).
*  Joanna Wilson (1702-1786), married 1723 Hezekiah Sawtell (1703-1779).
*  Alice Wilson (1703-1756), married 1724 Isaac Stearns (1700-1739).
*  Jacob Wilson (1705-1776), married 1737 Hannah --?-- (1710-????).
*  Sarah Wilson (1706-1744), married 1730 John Dean (1705-????).
*  Mary Wilson (1708-????)
*  Esther Wilson (1710-1729)
*  Dorcas Wilson (1711-????), married 1745 Ebenezer Wyman (1706-1760).
*  Seth Wilson (1713-1783), married 1744 Mary Evans (1720-1793).
*  Benjamin Wilson (1715-????).
*  Rebecca Wilson (1717-1729).

Elizabeth's father, Joseph Foster, wrote his will on 26 July 1721, died on 4 December 1721, and his will was proved on 18 December 1721[4].  He left his real and personal property to his third wife, his son Thomas Foster, and  his daughter Elizabeth Willson:
"Thirdly  I give to my daughter Elizabeth Willson the homestead that I had of Doctor John Kittrige whar Thomas Foster now lives and I do further give unto her my Nuttings meadow with all the land that I have upon Beare hill all on the wast side of the country road this I give unto her and to her hairs forever."
He also bequeathed property to his granddaughter, Joanna Willson:
""Fifthly  I give unto my granddaughter Johannah Willson twenty pounds to be paid to her by my executors in a cow and a bed and the rast in money.  I also give her a platter and a grat bason and a little bason and two spoons and my bias skillet and the chest that she lays her clothes in and a lining wheel and six wooden plates and a chaire. These I give to her and her hairs forever.  This money that is to be paid to Johannah above what her bed and cow comes to shall be paid out of ye movables or else they may be sold for money to make it:  and all the rest of my movables both within doors and without both cattle and all other things both wood and iron without doors and bras and pewter within doors and all other movables except that I have given to Joseph Willson and Johannah Willson they shall be equally divided between my son Thomas Foster and my daughter Elizabeth Willson and in cas they cannot agree in thar divission I do appoint my trusty friends Bengemen Thompson and John Blanchord to make thar divission for them and if they cannot agree I appoint Mr. Joseph Stevens to joyn with them and to make a final ishew."
John and Elizabeth Willson made an agreement with Elizabeth's brother, Joseph Foster, on 21 December 1721 that better defined the real property that she was to receive from the estate[4].

There is no apparent death record for John or Elizabeth Wilson.  Both John and Elizabeth died after 21 December 1721 when they signed the agreement.

There is no apparent probate record for John or Elizabeth Wilson of Billerica. There is no burial record for John and Elizabeth (Foster) Willson.
