Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Your Best Genealogy Achievements in 2023

 Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Come on, everybody, join in and accept the mission and execute it with precision.

1)  What were your best genealogy achievements in 2023?  Tell us - show us a document, or tell us a story, or display a photograph.  Brag a bit!  You've earned it!

2) Tell us about your best genealogy achievemenst in a comment on this post, or in a Facebook Status  post.  Please leave a link on this post if you write your own post.

Here's mine:

In reviewing my blog posts, I don't see many "breakthrough" research achievements in 2023.  My family tree is pretty well defined at this point, although I'm still working on descendants reports from the 4th great-grandparents.  I wrote and posted genealogical sketches of my two grandfathers.  I did more parish register research on my Richman and Rich ancestors in Wiltshire and have posted some of the records in my blog.  I wrote over 820 blog posts, including the weekly personal research posts - transcribing a document, transcribing an obituary, discussing a family photograph, analyzing a research document, and writing a genealogical sketch - all of which advance my research "ball."  Another achievement was using a text scanner mobile app to scan the typed text of my Aunt Geraldine's 37 pages of memoirs -- I added the pages to a digital file, edited the file, and saved it.

The most productive and useful achievement in 2023 came after I found many family photographs hiding in the closet and the floor piles, along with the yearly albums in the bookcase.  I dreaded scanning, editing, naming, and filing all of those photographs.  Then the MyHeritage Reimagine mobile app came along in May and it made the scanning job really easy - I could easily set up loose photos, or an album page, on a surface and take a photo with my iPhone using the mobile app.  The app separates each photograph, squares it up, and saves it on the MyHeritage Photos page where I can restore it, enhance it, colorize it, name it, tag it and save it to my computer.  It takes some work, but it was worth it.  I did about 600 of my "new" photos and still have many more to do.

One more achievement:  I wrote 37 of MY stories for a StoryWorth book, edited them, added photos to some of them, and it's ready for publication.

The most genealogy fun I had in 2023 was using the MyHeritage AI Time Machine to post pictures of myself in various time travels and costumes.  Here are two of my favorite time machine photos:

a)  French Royalty:

b)  1960s:

I used some of these pictures as my photograph on Facebook for months.

=======================================================

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED, and to alphabetize the entries in each category. Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to   https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link). It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

52 Relatives: Emily White (Richmond) Taylor (1879-1966) of Connecticut and Massachusetts

I have posted over 500 genealogical sketches of  my ancestors back through the 7th great-grandparents - see the list in 52 Ancestors Biographies.

I started a new weekly series called "52 Relatives" to document the lives of siblings of my ancestors with relatively short sketches with events and source citations.  They deserve a sketch also - they were integral parts of the lives of my ancestral families.  I will post the sketches on my Ancestry Member Tree and in the FamilySearch Family Tree.

Emily White (Richmond) Taylor (1879-1966) was my grand-aunt, the sister of my grandmother, Alma Bessie (Richmond) Seaver.  I knew her as Aunt Emily, a rather spry, older, prim and very proper lady in my childhood who spoke with a New England accent and had a big house to explore with my brother.  When my father came to San Diego from Massachusetts in December 1940, it was to the Taylor home.  We always went to her house on the 4th of July and at Christmas time.  My brothers and I were baptized in her church.
