============================================

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to  https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use a keyword (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords..

My friend, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED.  Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link).  It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- How Many Persons in Your Biggest Family Tree?

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -
time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment if you choose to play along (cue the Mission Impossible music, please!):

1)  Look in your preferred genealogy management program (e.g., RootsMagic, Family Tree Maker, Ancestry Member Tree, etc.) and determine how many separate "trees" (or "bushes," or "twigs") you have.

2)  How many persons are in your biggest family tree in your collection?  What persons are in your biggest tree (e.g., your ancestors, a person's descendants, etc.)

3)  Share your answers in your own blog post, in a comment on this post, or on a Facebook post.

Here's mine:

I use RootsMagic as my preferred Genealogy Management Program.  In the "Tools" menu, there is the "Count Trees" list.  I have 162 separate trees in this database of 50,337 persons.

I have 45,119 persons in my largest tree.  This includes all of my ancestral families, and the descendants of my ancestors that I have entered into the program (e.g., my Seaver, Carringer, Auble, Vaux, Buck, Dill and other surname studies).

I saw that I had about 10 "twig" trees with only one person in them, so I will prune them - either delete them or add them to another tree.

The biography and family data for several generations of the descendants of Thomas Waite of Portsmouth, Rhode Island was discussed in the article "Thomas Waite of Portsmouth, R.I. and Some of his Descendants," by G. Andrews Moriarty[1].

"Maribe" Wait was born 20 July 1720 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, the fifth child (of eight) of Thomas and Mary (Tripp) Waite of Dartmouth[2-3].  The first seven children were born in Dartmouth, and the last child was born in East Greenwich, Rhosde Island, where the Thomas Wait family moved to in about 1729.  "Meribee" is recorded in the East Greenwich town records also[4].

Meribah married Benjamin Soule in about 1742 in Dartmouth[1,6].  There is no marriage record in the town vital records.  They had two daughters, Martha and Patience in 1743 and 1745, respectively.  Their births are recorded in the Dartmouth town records.

The Benjamin Soule family resided in the part of Dartmouth that was set off as the town of Westport in 1787.

Meribah (Wait) Soule died on 3 February 1803 in Westport, Massachusetts, just three days after her husband died[5].  There are no burial records for her.

There are no probate records for Meribah (Wait) Soule.  Her husband's will was proved after both of them died and the estate was distributed to their descendants.

Seavers in the News - Hobart L. Seaver dies in 1954 in Barre, Vermont

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a semi-regular feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the The Burlington [Vt.] Free Press newspaper dated Saturday, 30 January 1954:

The transcription of this obituary is:

"HOBART SEAVER

"BARRE, Jan. 29 -- Hobart L. Seaver, 48, died Friday morning at the Barre City Hospital where he had been a patient since Thursday.

"Mr. Seaver, manager of the store at the Granite City Cooperative Creamery, had gone to work as usual and was stricken with a heart attach while he was shoveling snow.

"He was born April 16, 1905 in Washington, son of Leo and Edith (Hanson) Seaver.  He attended Washington school and Goddard Seminary, then located in Barre.  He had been employed at the creamery for the past 27 years.  Last month he had moved to Burlington and since then had commuted to and from his employment in Barre.

"Mr. Seaver in 1953 married Miss. Katherine R. Bing of Burlington, who survives.  He also leaves a son by a former marriage, Russell Seaver of Washington; two brothers, Kenneth Seaver of Washington and Paul Seaver of Barre; one sister, Mrs. William 'Lola' Carle of Barre.

"An enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Barre Fish and Game Club.  He was a former member of the Odd Fellows in Washington.

"  Funeral services are to be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Whitcomb Funeral Home, 102 Washington St.  Burial will be in the Washington cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday.  The Whitcomb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements."

The source citation for this obituary is:

"Hobart Seaver,The Burlington [Vt.] Free Press newspaper, Saturday, 30 January 1954, page 2, column 1, Hobart Seaver obituary; digital image, Newspapers.com   (www.newspapers.com : accessed 12 July 2018).

According to my RootsMagic family tree database, Hobart Leigh. Seaver  was born 16 April 1905 in Washington, Orange County, Vermont, the son of Leo Wallace and Edith May (Hanson) Seaver.
I also had the 30 December 1953 marriage record to Katherine Bing, the first spouse's name as Esther Irene (Bowman) Paige and the son.

I was able to find the birth dates, first marriages, and death dates of both spouses.  Hobart died less than a month after his second marriage to Katherine.  Her maiden name was Ryan and she married again to Laureston Adams in 1959, and died in 1992.

Hobart Leigh Seaver (1905-1954) is my 8th cousin twice times removed.

1720 Birth Record of Meribah Wait in Dartmouth, Mass. - Post 420 for Treasure Chest Thursday

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - a chance to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1720 birth record of Meribah Wait in the Dartmouth, Massachusetts town records:

The Meribah Wait birth record is on the right-hand page of the image above in the top section which lists all of the births of the Thomas and Mary (Tripp) Wait children:

The transcription of the birth record for Meribah Wait is:

"...Maribe Wait the daughter of Thomas Wait was born the 20th day of July in year 1720..."

The source citation for this record is:

"Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988," indexed records and digital images,Ancestry.com (http://www.ancestry.com), "Dartmouth, Births, Marriages, Deaths" page 91,(image 439 of 2331), Maribe Wait entry.

Meribah Wait (1720-1803) was the 5th child of 8 born to Thomas and Mary (Tripp) Wait of Dartmouth, Massachusetts.  All of them are recorded in the town record on the right-hand page of the image above.  Meribah married Benjamin Soule (1719-1803) in about 1742 in Dartmouth.

This town record is, I believe, the original entry of the birth records in the Dartmouth town record book.  It was not unusual for all of the children of a couple to be entered on one page of the town record book.  There are several "hands" apparent on this page and in the Wait family entries.

Benjamin and Meribah (Waite) Soule are my 6th great-grandparents.  I am descended from their daughter Martha Soule (1743-1828) who married David Kirby (1740-1832) in 1763 and resided in Dartmouth and Westport, Massachusetts.
