Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Who Is Your Current Favorite Ancestor to Research and Why

   It's Saturday Night -

time for more Genealogy Fun!

Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible music here) is to:

1) Who is your current favorite ancestor to research and why? [Thank you to Linda Stufflebean for suggesting topics!]

2)  Write your own blog post, or add your response as a comment to this blog post, in a Facebook Status post or note.

Here's mine:

I have so many ancestors and it is hard to pick!  I will us my 52 Ancestors theme as a guide.

This week, my favorite ancestor is my 7th great-grandmother #711 (lucky, eh?) Hannah Mott (1663-1730), the second wife of Abraham Tucker (1653-1725) of Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

For my 52 Ancestors posts, I use the book and periodical family history information I have, and then try to find as many records for the person and the family as possible on Ancestry, FamilySearch, MyHeritage, Findmypast, American Ancestors, WikiTree and Geni.  In addition, I usually Google the person's name and parents or spouse.  When I find records, I download them and put them in the surname/family file on my computer.

Once I've collected all of the records I can find, I update the person's profile in my RootsMagic family tree, adding events, dates, places, source citations and notes.

To write the weekly blog post, I create an Individual Summary report in RootsMagic, save it as a text file, and copy/paste the information into the template for the 52 Ancestors series (usually I copy the last one, and edit it).

After writing the blog post, I try to update the profiles in my Ancestry tree, the FamilySearch Family Tree, and sometimes on WikiTree and Geni.

This process usually takes 4 to 8 hours each week, so it is manageable and not onerous, and leaves me time for other genealogy related activities.

Here's the last 52 Ancestors blog post I did for #710 Abraham Tucker --  https://www.geneamusings.com/2022/07/52-ancestors-week-440-710-abraham.html.

The Hannah Mott profile will be #441 in the 52 Ancestors series.  I started this series in early 2014 using my Ahnentafel as a guide from great-grandparents on down the list.  I have missed a few weeks due to attending conferences and my recent health problems, but I'm back on track and working through the 7th great-grandparents.  My list of past 52 Ancestors blog posts is in   https://www.geneamusings.com/p/ancestor-biographies.html.  I need to add the posts from the last two months.

Why?  Because I want to do this in an organized and consistent fashion and leave it online and in family trees so it benefits my family and other researchers.

=======================================================

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED, and to alphabetize the entries in each category.  Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to   https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link). It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

The website "Early Tuckers" (https://gahimer.com/2018/03/14/early-tuckers/) has a family sketch for Abraham Tucker[1].  In addition, Dartmouth, Massachusetts vital records have birth and marriage records for Abraham, his two wives, and their children.

 Abraham Tucker, son of Henry and Martha (--?--) Tucker, was born 13 October 1653 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts Bay[1-2].

He married (1) Mary Slocum, the daughter of Giles Slocum, on October 30, 1679 in Dartmouth   [1,3]. Both he and Mary had been born in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and it is likely that the Slocum family had moved to Dartmouth with the Tucker family.

  Abraham and Mary had six children:

*  Henry Tucker (1680-1722), married 1704 Phebe Barton (1684-????)

 Mary died 26 October 1689 in Dartmouth.  Abraham married (2)  Hannah Mott (1663-1732) on 26 November 1690 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts Bay[1,4].  She was the daughter of Jacob and Joanna (Slocum) Mott of Portsmouth, Rhode Island.  Abraham and Hannah Tucker had seven children, all born and recorded in Dartmouth:

*  Elizabeth Tucker (1691-1768), married 1715 James Barker (1691-1749).
*  Sarah Tucker (1693-1727), married 1714 Edward Wing (1687-1734).
*  Content Tucker (1695-1739), married 1722 Benjamin Wing (1698-1782).
*  Abraham Tucker (1697-1776), married (1) 1722 Elizabeth Russell (1705-1724);(2) 1728 Hannah Hall (1700-1731).
*  Joanna Tucker (1699-1772), married 1726 John Russell (1686-1747).
*  Ruth Tucker (1701-????).
*  Hannah Tucker (1704-1787), married 1734  James Greene (1701-1789).

Abraham Tucker was a Quaker[1] and a member of the Friends Church at Dartmouth.

 Abraham Tucker died at age 71 on March 16, 1724/1725 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts Bay[5].  There are no extant burial records for Abraham.
