*  Henry Austin Carringer - born 1853 in Mercer County, Penn., died 1946 in San Diego, Calif.

Married 1887 in Wano, Kansas to Abbie Ardell Smith - born 1862 in Rolling Prairie, Wis., died 1944 in San Diego, Calif.

*  Charles Auble - born 1849 in Newark, N.J., died 1916 in San Diego, Calif.

Married 1898 in Milwaukee, Wis. to Georgianna Kemp - born 1868 in Middleton, Ontario, died in 1952 in San Diego, Calif.

Five of my eight great-grandparents, born between 1848 and 1868, moved west during their lifetimes.  My father came west in 1940 to San Diego.  Three of my 2nd great-grands came from England to America in the 1830s and 1850s.  My 2nd great-grands Carringer and Smith moved west also, and three ended up in San Diego in the 1880s.

Leading family history website Findmypast have today announced the publication of a significant update to their collection of. These new additions have been added to Findmypast’s existing collection of indexed 1920 to 1932 registers to create a vast new resource containing 150 million records spanning over two decades.

Ahead of Findmypast’s widely anticipated release of the 1921 Census of England & Wales in January 2022, improved access to these important British Library documents will enable family historians to locate their ancestors between the 1911 Census and 1939 Register with greater ease and accuracy than ever before.

As well as adding a staggering 32 million names, Findmypast’s new and improved England & Wales, Electoral Registers 1910-1932 collection now contains over 14 million additional addresses making it a valuable resource for anyone looking to explore the history of their home.

Electoral Registers are listings of all those registered to vote in a particular area. The lists were created annually to record the names of eligible voters and their reason for eligibility, such as their residence or ownership of a property. Registration for voters in England and Wales has been required since 1832 and registers were typically published annually, making them particularly useful for tracking ancestors between censuses, uncovering previous occupants of a property or exploring the history of a local area.

Thanks to a new technique known as “Structured Data Extract”, England & Wales Electoral Registers 1910-1932 has been fully indexed, allowing users to search millions of images by name, date, location and keyword. As well as images, each search result provides a transcript recording the individual’s name, registration year, address or abode, the nature of their qualification to vote or a description of their property, and occasionally their occupation or age.

This new method has not only enabled Findmypast to extract large volumes of meaningful information from so many original documents, it has also allowed for this data to be structured and organised to a greater degree than traditional Optical Character Recognition. This not only enables more precise searches but also the use of name variants which will catch a huge assortment of miss-spelled names.

RICHARD JACKSON, Findmypast’s Data Development Manager said: "To extract meaningful data from images, the documents go through three distinct steps. Firstly, Findmypast process the images, de-skewing to align wonky text. Then the images are enhanced to amplify the text on the page for better character recognition. Once the text on each image has been captured, the Structured Data Extract process analyses and identifies the contents and structure of each image based on a variety of expectations."

In the case of Electoral Registers, names are expected to appear on the left-hand side of each image with address information on the right. In time, we hope to revisit this dataset to extract even more value for our customers and hope that they enjoy the results of this first stage of extraction.

Findmypast is now able provide users with unrivalled record coverage for early 20th century Britain, allowing them to trace their family story across a period of history that has traditionally been difficult for many researchers.

Lydia Ward (1665-1740) is #621 on my Ahnentafel List, my 7th great-grandmother, who married #620 John Maynard (1661-1731)  in 1688 in Marlborough, Middlesex County,  Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Lydia Ward was born 16 March 1664/5 in Sudbury, Massachusetts Bay, the only daughter and second child of Richard and Mary (Moore) Ward[1,4].

Lydia married at age 24 in about 1688 to John Maynard (1661-1731) son of John and Mary (Gates) Maynard of Marlborough, Massachusetts Bay[1-3].

The family resided in Marlborough, and they had nine children, all but Bethia born and recorded in Marlborough town records:

*  John Maynard (1690-1741), married 1719 Hepsibah Brigham (1686-1757).

*  Daniel Maynard (1692-1760), married 1735 Mary Oaks (1710-1805).

*  James Maynard (1694-????), married 1719 Mary Morse (1697-????).

*  Reuben Maynard (1698-1762), married 1745 Dorothy Williams (1714-????).

*  Abigail Maynard (1701-1778), married 1743 Nathan Tyler (1687-1782).

John Maynard wrote his will on 15 April 1731 and it was proved on 14 June 1731 in Middlesex County Probate Court[5].  In his will he provided for his wife, Lydia:

"Item I Give unto and bequeath to Lydia my dearly beloved wife one half of all my household ????? or Goods to be her own, and at her own disposing."

and:

"... But if ???? ????? should so order That I should Leave my now wife a widow, and she should not chuse to be provided for by him my said son  Hezekiah,  then my will is that my wife that now is shal have the privilege of her conveniancy  she stand in need of in this my house and have one cow which she shall chuse out of my stock of cretures, and be keept summer and winter at the ???? of my said son Hezekiah and one third part of the income of my pleace yearly for her Livlyhood during the time She Remains my widow."

After her husband John died, Lydia (Ward) Maynard likely lived the rest of her life with her youngest son, Hezekiah Maynard, who inherited the John Maynard homestead in Marlborough.  

Lydia died at age 75 on 10 January 1740 in Sudbury[6].  There is no known burial location, and there are no probate records for her in Middlesex County Probate Court records.

Seavers in the News - Kenneth E. Seaver Dies in 1956 in in Charlestown, Massachusetts

 It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Boston [Mass.] Globe[ newspaper dated 12 October 1956:

The transcription of the article is:

"SEAVER -- In Charlestown.  Oct. 10, Kenneth E., beloved husband of Marquita (Roch) and father of Kenneth R. and Barbara Ann Seaver of 503 Main st.  Funeral services at the E.L. Kelleher Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Somerville, Saturday at 10 a.m.  Relatives and friends invited.  Veteran of World War II.  Visiting hours 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m."

The source citation is:

"Seaver," The Boston [Mass.] Globe newspaper, Friday, 12 October 1956, page 40, column 6, Kenneth E. Seaver obituary; Newspapers.com   (https://www.newspapers.com : accessed 16 September  2021).

This obituary provides the name, home address, death date and place, spouse's name, children's names, , and information about his military service.  This is the only death record I've found for Kenneth, and I did not have information about his two children.

Kenneth Elmer Seaver (1912-1956) was born 31 January 1912 in Hubbardston, Massachusetts, and died 10 October 1956 in Charlestown.  He was the son of Samuel Alonzo and Florence Alice (Wells) Seaver.  He married (1) Marie Rizzo (1917-????) on 14 April 1935 in Keene, New Hampshire.  They had two known children:

*  Barbara Ann Seaver (1937-????)

*  Kenneth Robert Seaver (1941-1982).

Kenneth Elmer Seaver married (2) Marquita Roch (1911-1984) on 12 January 1943 in New Hanover, North Carolina.  They had no known children.

I am a 4th cousin 2 times removed to Kenneth Elmer Seaver, with the common Seaver ancestor being 5th great-grandfather Norman Seaver (1734-1787) of Westminster, Massachusetts.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has an obituary without many life details. I am glad that I can honor Kenneth Elmer Seaver today.  

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
