Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- What Genealogy Search/Research Did You Do This Past Week?

 Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

It's Saturday Night again -
time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment, should you decide to accept it (you ARE reading this, so I assume that you really want to play along - cue the Mission Impossible music!):

1)
What genealogy search/research did you do this past week?  Did you have a research goal or plan?  Tell us about one or more search/research session.  Did you make any breakthroughs in your research?

2)  Write your own blog post, or leave a comment on this post, or write something on Facebook.

Here's mine:

I rarely have a stated research goal or a research plan.  I pretty much do "real" research at this point in my career only to write a blog post for Amanuensis Monday, Seavers in the News on Tuesday, Treasure Chest Thursday and 52 Ancestors on Friday.  But those posts keep my "hand in the game" and "advance the research ball" one post at a time.  This past week, I transcribed a Seaver will, transcribed a Seaver obituary, found and transcribed a 1684 birth record, and wrote a genealogical sketch for one of my 7th great-grandmothers.  I also wrote a blog for a six generations descendants list that serves as cousin bait for family history Googlers.

Other research efforts this past week involved resolving Ancestry and MyHeritage record hints and matches, adding events, names, dates, sources and images to my RootsMagic family tree database (and thence to my Ancestry tree and to FamilySearch Family Tree).  I also added information to some of the MyHeritage photos that I've scanned recently, and even found more "new to me" photos in the boxes hiding in plain sight in the genealogy cave.

Then there is real life family history - my daughter, one grandson and his girlfriend are here to visit us and help me around the house.  We visited Linda and played Uno and went to the Padres game on Friday night and had fun there.

I didn't have any real breakthroughs this past week.  They seem to be few and far-between these days of my life.

=======================================================

My friend and SDGS colleague, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED, and to alphabetize the entries in each category. Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to   https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use keywords (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords.

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link). It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1684 Birth Record of Anne Bartlet in Newbury, Massachusetts

I looked in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings for Treasure Chest Thursday.

The treasure today is the 1684  birth record of Anne Bartlet in Newbury, Massachusetts:

The birth record:

The transcription of this birth record is:

"BARTLET, Anne, d. Christopher, Mar. 29, 1684."

The source citation for this birth record is:

The Essex Institute, Vital Records of Newbury, Massachusetts, to the End of the Year 1849, 2 Volumes (Salem, Mass. : The Essex Institute, 1911), Volume 1, Births, page 38, Anne Bartlet entry, 29 March 1684.

This record is a Derivative Source, with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the birth of Anne Bartlet in Newbury, Massachusetts, the daughter of Christopher Bartlet. The original record is probably in a Newbury town record book that may no longer be available.

Anne Bartlett was born 29 March 1684 in Newbury, Massachusetts, the daughter of Christopher and Deborah Weed) Bartlett. She married Joseph Colbey (1680-1754) on 22 November 1704 in Amesbury, Massachusetts.   Joseph Colbey was born 1 August 1680 in Amesbury, Massachusetts, the son of John nd Sarah(Eldredge) Colby.  Joseph and Anne had eight children.

Joseph and Anne (Bartlett) Colby are my 7th great-grandparents.  I am descended through their son Joseph Colby (1707-1768), who married 1736 Abigail Worthen (1714-????).

Lyle, Emily and Betty Carringer in About 1920 in San Diego -- Post 778 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday

I can't help it, I can't do a wordless post! This is now one of my favorite photographs:

This photograph is of my mother, Betty Virginia Carringer (1919-2002) and her parents, my maternal grandparents, Emily Kemp Auble (1899-1977) and Lyle Lawrence Carringer (1891-1976) in late 1920 or early 1921 San Diego, California.

I do not know the setting of this photograph.  It is near a house with a porch, and another house in the background.  Perhaps it is the house at 2054 Harrison Street in San Diego that the Carringers lived in before building a home at 2130 Fern Street in San Diego.  The man in the background leaning on the porch railing may be Lyle's Uncle Harvey Edgar Carringer (1852-1946).

I colorized this photograph using the MyHeritage photo tools.

This photograph is all part of our family history.
