============================================

In order to select a specific record collection on FamilySearch, go to  https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list and use the "Filter by collection name" feature in the upper left-hand corner and use a keyword (e.g. "church england") to find collections with those keywords..

My friend, Marshall, has come up with a way to determine which collections are ADDED, DELETED or UPDATED.  Thanks to Marshall for helping me out here!

Each one of the collections listed above has a Research Wiki page (use the "Learn more" link).  It would be very useful if the Wiki page for each collection listed the dates for when the collection was added as a new collection and the dates for major updates also.

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Ahnentafel Roulette

Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -
time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment if you choose to play along (cue the Mission Impossible music, please!):

1) What year was one of your great-grandparents born?  Divide this number by 100 and round the number off to a whole number. This is your "roulette number."

2) Use your pedigree charts or your family tree genealogy software program to find the person with that number in your ancestral name list (some people call it an "ah
nentafel" -
your software will create this - use the "Ahnentafel List" option, or similar). Who is that person, and what are his/her vital information?

3) Tell us three facts about that person in your ancestral name list with the "roulette number."

4) Write about it in a blog post on your own blog, in a Facebook status or a Google Stream post, or as a comment on this blog post.

5) NOTE:  If you do not have a person's name for your "roulette number" then "spin" the wheel again - pick someone else - a grandfather, a parent, a favorite aunt or cousin, yourself, or even your children!

Here's mine:

1)  My great-grandfather, Frank Walton Seaver (1852-1922), was born in 1852.  So my "Roulette number" is 18.52, rounded up to 19.

2)  Number 19 on my ancestor name list (ahnentafel list) is Sophia Newton, Frank's mother-in-law!  Her vital information includes:

** Born on 14 September 1834 (or 1835?), probably in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont (or possibly Cambridge, Lamoille County, Vermont) to Thomas J. Newton (????-????) and Sophia (Buck) (Brigham) (Newton) Stone (1797-1882).
**  Married on 25 December 1852 in Northborough, Worcester County, Massachusetts to Edward Hildreth (1831-1899).
**  Died 29 August 1923 in Leominster, Worcester County, Massachusetts, of "old age" at age 88.

3)  Three facts about Sophia Newton:

**  My father knew Sophia (Newton) Hildreth ... she owned the Hildreth home at 149 Lancaster Street in Leominster from her husband's death in 1899 until her passing in 1923, and her daughter's family (Hattie Hildreth married Frank W. Seaver) lived with her in that house from about 1880 to 1905, and then lived less than one mile away after 1912.

**  Sophia (Newton) Hildreth had two known children - Hattie Louisa Hildreth (1857-1920) who married Frank W. Seaver (1852-1922), and Clarence Edward Hildreth (1874-1878).  I've always wondered if there were other children, or perhaps miscarriages or stillborns.  Only Hattie appears in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census records.

**  Since Sophia died after her only child who lived to adulthood, and that child's husband, the probate court filings for Frank and Hattie (Hildreth) Seaver were delayed until Sophia (Newton) Hildreth died in 1923.  The three estates were then probated in 1923, with the two living sons of Frank and Hattie (Hildreth) Seaver inheriting the estate.  The house at 149 Lancaster Street was sold in this process.

Seavers in the News - Earle R. Seaver Dies in 1944 in Pittsburgh

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a semi-regular feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the The Pittsburgh [PA.] Press newspaper dated Monday, 23 October 1944:

The transcription of this article is:

"Earle R. Seaver

"Funeral services for Earle R. Seaver, 35, of Creighton Ave., Crafton, who died Thursday, were held yesterday afternoon in his home, with burial in the Uniondale Cemetery.

"Mr. Seaver was state representative of the Agricultural and Empire State Insurance Co. of Watertown, N.Y.

"He was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh; Crafton F. & A.M., No. 653; a thirty-second degree Mason, a member of the Rotary of Crafton.

"Mr. Seaver is survived by his widow, Mrs. Louise Turner Seaver; a daughter, Mrs. Paul L. Roberts; a son, Marine Pvt. Richard T. Seaver; four sisters, the Misses Elizabeth M., Clara B. and Anna G. Seaver and Mrs. C.E. Best, and a brother, Wayne A. Seaver."

The source citation for this obituary is:

"Earle R. Seaver,The Pittsburgh [Pa.] Press newspaper, Monday, 23 October 1944, page 9, column 3, Earle R. Seaver obituary; digital image, Newspapers.com   (www.newspapers.com : accessed 5 July 2018).

According to my RootsMagic family tree database, Earle Richard Seaver  was born 12 October 1892 in Watertown, New York, the son of Richard F. and Clara J. (McOmber) Seaver.  He married Louise Turner (1893-????) in about 1921 in Pennsylvania, and they  had two children, Jean L. Seaver (1922-????) and Richard Turner Seaver (1925-1991).

The age at death is obviously wrong - the Pennsylvania Death Certificate for him says he was 52 at death.

I had all of them in my RootsMagic family tree database, but I'm missing death dates for his wife and daughter.  This obituary added a spouse for the daughter.  Apparently, three of the four sisters named had not yet married.

Earle Richard Seaver is my 6th cousin three times removed.

1719 Birth Record of Benjamin Soule in Dartmouth, Mass. - Post 419 for Treasure Chest Thursday

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - a chance to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1719 birth record of Benjamin Soule in the Dartmouth, Massachusetts town records:

The Benjamin Soule birth record is on the left-hand page of the image above in the top section which lists all of the births of the Jacob and Rebekah Soule children:

The transcription of this record is:

"[SOULE] Benjamin s[on] of Jacob and Rebekah   18 Nov   1719"

The source citation for this record is:

"Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988," indexed records and digital images,Ancestry.com (http://www.ancestry.com), "Dartmouth, Births, Marriages, Deaths" page 154 (image 81 of 2331), Benjamin Soule entry.

Benjamin Soule (1719-1803) was the 6th child of 8 born to Jacob and Rebekah (Gifford) Soule of Dartmouth, Massachusetts.  All of them are recorded in the town record on the left-hand page of the image above.  Benjamin married Meribah Waite (1720-1803) in about 1742 in Dartmouth.

Benjamin and Meribah (Waite) Soule my 6th great-grandparents.  I am descended from their daughter Martha Soule (1743-1828) who married David Kirby (1740-1832)in 1763 and resided in Dartmouth and Westport, Massachusetts.
