The Fred and Bessie Seaver Gravestone in Leominster, Mass. -- Post 362 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday

I'm posting old family photographs from my collection on Wednesdays, but they won't be wordless posts like others do - I simply am incapable of having a wordless post.

Here is one of the most precious (to me) images from my Seaver/Carringer family collection:

These photographs are of the Frederick and Alma Bessie (Richmond) Seaver gravestone in Evergreen Cemetery in Leominster, Massachusetts.  They are my paternal grandparents.

The photographs were taken on 4 May 2007 by Linda and myself.  We were attending the memorial service and inurnment of my father's youngest sister, Geraldine (Seaver) Remley (1917-2007).  There was one plot available in this family plot, so she arranged to be inurned in it as the last of her generation in the family.  That's why there is dirt piled up and a wooden cover over the hole in front of the stone.

Gerry's name was to be engraved on the stone after her inurnment.  I think this has been done, but I don't have a photograph of the modified gravestone.  Note that there is a third person on the gravestone inscription - Stanley Richmond Seaver (1905-1910), the first born son of Fred and Bessie, who died of scarlet fever in 1910, the year before my father was born.

This trip was the last time we visited New England.  We need to return - I have lots more research to do, ancestral homes to find, and cousins to catch up with.

Randy,
Someone has posted a photo of Geraldine's stone markings on FindAGrave. I live nearby so could have done it if it had not already been done.

What a sweet memorial to your family. The names on the front testify to the belief that your family has in the unity of family. I love the flower carving image. It seems like every family needs an image that unites them. With it being incorporated on the gravestone, makes it so much more important.

Randy, I pass through Leominster all the time on the way to my Mom's house. If you would like a photo, especially to see Geraldine's name engraved on the stone, just let me know. You have my email.
