Best of the Genea-Blogs - 17 July to 23 July 2016

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  A Daughter of the American Revolution by True Lewis on the NoTeS To MySeLf blog.  True became a Daughter of the American Revolution with help from her genealogy friends.

*  The Cousin Next Door: Using the FAN Club Principle by Christy Fillerup on the Legacy Tree Genealogists blog.  Christy describes the cluster and FAN Club genealogy concepts.

*  3 Things to Ask a Genealogy Librarian by Amy Johnson Crow on the Amy Johnson Crow blog.  Excellent suggestions.

*  How Many Cousins Share my 5th Great-Grandparents? by Kitty Cooper on Kitty Cooper's Blog.  Good question, and Kitty has some answers.

*  Did You Hear About the Great New Features From GenealogyBank.com? by Barbara Poole on the Life From the Roots blog.  Mo, I didn't.  Thanks, Barbara!

*  My Takeaway on Day #1 - Kentucky Trip with Sisters; Day #2: and Day #3 by Peggy Lauritzen on the Always Anxiously Engaged blog.  Road trip, three sisters, genealogy, what could go wrong?

*  No Right to Sharing by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  A good and helpful post.

*  Why Your Ancestry.com and Other Online Genealogy Searches Don't Work by Diane Haddad on the Genealogy Insider blog.  Diane has an excellent check list and suggestions.

*  A Year in Review, Part I by Michael Lacopo on  the Hoosier Daddy blog.  Sad, funny, scary, this is a recap of Michael's life from 2013 into 2015.  I'm glad he's writing again.

*  Behind the Scenes at MAAGI 2016 by Nicka Smith on the Who Is Nicka Smith? blog.  Nicka describes highlights from this institute.
