Seavers in the News -- Railroad Official Albert H. Seaver Dies in Weymouth, Massachusetts in 1964

 Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Boston [Mass.] Globe newspaper dated 9 May 1964, page 26:

The transcription of the article is:

"Albert H. Seaver
Retired Railroad Official

"COHASSET -- Albert H. Seaver, 87, of 31 Highland av., died Friday at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.

"Born in Newtonville, he was graduated from Boston English High School.  He first went to work for the old New York and New England Railway in 1895.  He also worked for the New Haven-Long Island line in New York as chief clerk in the passenger department.

"In subsequent years he served the New Haven line as a passenger traffic manager and assistant to the vice-president of the traffic division.

"He was a member of various Masonic lodges in Brooklyn and held the honorary 33d degree of the Scottish Rites.

"He leaves his wife, Edna (Holton) Seaver; a son, John of Sayetteville, N.Y., a daughter, Mrs. Alice Sokolowski of Cohasset, and four grandchildren.

"Private funeral services will be held Monday."

This obituary identifies his death date and place, occupation and accomplishments, associations, and living family members, 

Albert Hobbs Seaver (1876-1964) was born 19 June 1876 in Newton, Massachusetts, the son of Nathan Hobbs and Alice Augusta (Pettigrove) Seaver.  He died 8 May 1964 in Weymouth, Massachusetts  He married to Edna Eliza Holton (1885-1974)  on 24 April 1912 in Brooklyn, New York, and they had two children:

*  John Dudley Seaver (1913-1999), married 1941 Millicent Leeds (1917-2009).
*  Alice Holton Seaver (1916-1992), married (1) 1938 Albert John Neff (1911-1953); (2) Chester J. Sokolowski (1924-2012). 

Albert Hobbs Seaver (1876-1964) is a 7th cousin 3 times removed of mine.  Our most recent common Seaver ancestor is my 9th great-grandfather Robert Seaver (1608-1683).

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has an interesting career and associations.  I am glad that I can honor Albert Hobbs Seaver today.
