Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - the Super Bowl of Genealogy

It's Saturday Night - time for some Genealogy Fun!! It's also Super Bowl Eve...

Many American residents are focused on Sunday's Super Bowl XLIV to decide the championship of the National Football League. After 20 weeks of play, the Indianapolis Colts (16-2) are favored by 5 points over the New Orleans Saints (15-3) in the game to be played in Miami, Florida in an outdoor stadium on real grass, starting at 3:30 p.m. (PST). The pre-game hype, er, programs, starts on Sunday morning on CBS.

So, your mission, if you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible theme), is to:

1) Tell us about your dream game of the Super Bowl of Genealogy!

* Where would it be played?
* What teams would play?
* Who would be the head coaches?
* Who would be the stars of the game?
* Who would win?
* Who are the cheerleaders?
* If you were playing in the game, what would be your dream play?

2) Who do you think will win the NFL Super Bowl Colts-Saints game on Sunday? Your score prediction, please!

3) Post your thoughts on your own blog, on a Facebook comment or Note, or as a comment on this blog post.

My entry will be posted later tonight.

Well, I don't know the answers to the other questions, but I wanna be a cheerleader!

Greta gets her wish.

The SuperBowl of Genealogy was played in a soggy and cold Weaver's Creek Bottom near Parham, Monroe County, Mississippi. The favorite team, West Coast Genea-Cats, was favored by forty points, the biggest spread ever in pre-game predictions.

The Genea-Cats were coached by R. Seavers, C. Manson, and F.N. Maven. The Genea-Cats players included M. Robbins, L. Lehmer, D. Paul, Little Bytes Elizabeth, E. Doerfinger, Henk of Holland, J. Oswalt, K. Doyle, J. Tarr, G. Geder, Brett P., C. Howells, and Aunt Myrtle.

The Hill-Hogs were coached by T. Thornton (except for the overtime), L. Thornton, and B. Franks. Hill-Hog players included M. Mills, Fried Kudzu Ginger, B. West, B. Wiseman, Blind Pig Tipper, M. Frazel, J. Beine, D. Olsen, J. Richards, J. Iles, T. "Green" Abbott, and Ohio Terry.

Leading cheers for the Genea-Cats were C. Kinnick, D. Point, W. Littrell, and D. Fenley..

Leading cheers for the Hill-Hogs were G. Koehl, R. Stephens, J. Tracy, Graveyard Lincecum, and J. Oswalt.

The Southern Hill-Hogs won by three points on a field goal kicked in sudden-death overtime play when one of the Hill-Hogs' coaches, T. Thornton, activated himself to the team and kicked, for the first time in his seventy years, a perfect goal over the posts.

Game MVPers were: for the Genea-Cats, Henk, the Holland place-kicker who kept his team in play by kicking brilliantly; for the Hill-Hogs, head-coach through the first four quarters of play but who activated himself to kicker in overtime, T. Thornton, for placing a perfect field goal through the posts to win in sudden-death overtime.

My prediction for the "real" Super Bowl: Saints in regulation play, 30 to 27.

Of course the Hill-Hogs won. The Genea-Cats were too busy blogging on the sidelines to concentrate on the game :)

Oh, Terry, I'll be grateful to you forever for making me a cheerleader! And to you, too, Herstoryan, for putting me on the defensive line (I have always been more of a defensive than offensive type of person). Today is my fantasy-come-true day. Oh, yeah, GO HILL-HOGS!!!
