Best of the Genea-Blogs - 11 to 17 May 2014

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Preparing Your Genealogical  Project for Publication by Scott C. Steward on the Vita Brevis blog.  Scott offers guidelines to those of us considering writing for publication.

*  On Demand Publishing: A Comparison for the Family Historian by Lynn Palermo on The Armchair Genealogist blog.  Lynn compares Lulu, Blurb and Shutterfly for a specific book size, cover and page count.

*  DNA Ethics: Speak Up! by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  Judy highlights the draft of proposed Genetic Genealogy Standards.

*  52 Ancestors Challenge: Week #18 Recap by Amy Johnson Crow on the No Story Too Small blog.  There were 133 posts in Week 18.

*  DNA News of the Week:  What is Really Provable? by Annette on the AK's Genealogy Research blog.  This is the right question, and Annette provides some answers.

*  Paper vs. Digital -- Don't Let Your Work Go Up In Flames by Diane Gould Hall on the Michigan Family Trails \blog.  Diane is wise, please listen to her!  It's not just fires that threaten us.

*  See An Error? Speak Up! by Heather Wilkinson Rojo on the Nutfield Genealogy blog.  Heather had a contact who provided more information to one of her blog posts, and she updated her post with the new information.

*  Online Digital Map Collections by State by James Tanner on the Genealogy's Star blog.   What a great list!

*  Living History Museums: Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia by Karin Hadden on The Art of Genealogy blog.  Karin shares information that she learned while visiting Williamsburg.

*  Myrt's AmbushCAM at #NGS2014GEN by Pat Richley-Erickson on the DearMYRTLE's Genealogy Blog.

*  52 Ancestors Challenge: Week 19 Recap by Amy Johnson Crow on the No Story Too Small blog.  There are 116 biographies in this week's recap.

These genea-bloggers wrote weekly pick posts and news summary posts this week:

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1520 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
