Best of the Genea-Blogs - 8 to 14 March 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Are We Wrong About Preserving Old Family Photos? by Marian Pierre-Louis on Marian's Roots and Rambles blog.  I don't think so...

*  Why Should I Prove It? by Devon Lee on A Patient Genealogist blog.  Devon makes the case for adding sources to all of your family trees.

*  Bullying and Elitism by Tony Proctor on the Parallax View blog.  Tony discusses hobbyist versus academic genealogy issues.

*  Genealogy is a Marathon, Not a Sprint by Janine Adams on the Organize Your Family History blog.  Janine tries to do some research every week, and it adds up.

*  How and Why to Use Genealogy Gophers by Amy Johnson Crow on the No Story Too Small blog.  Amy demonstrates how smart the GenGophers website is, and the best way to search it.

*  The Onion Layers That Were Cecilia Dagutis by Schalene Dagutis on the Tangled Roots and Trees blog.  Onion layers is a great term for this 20th century research problem.

*  Breaking Genealogical Stereotypes: Interview with D. Joshua Taylor by Mark S. on the Crestleaf blog.  An interesting interview of Josh.

*  It's Almost Friday the 13th, and I am Behind! by the writer of The Ancestry Insider blog.  Mr. AI highlights recent genealogy news you might not have seen.

*  When Places Change ... The Search for a hotel in Sussex Street by Sharn White on the FamilyHistory4u blog.  Sharn looks for the location of "our" Sydney pub - The Lancashire Arms, in present day Sydney.  Thank you, Sharn!

*  Plan Ahead:  Protect Your Genealogy From Disaster by Denise Levenick on the Ancestry.com Blog.  Denise has valuable tips to safeguard your research and artifacts.

*  A Colorado County Copy by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  Judy discusses original records and court clerk copies - the latter are imperfect.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

*  My Memorable Monthly Mentions (AKA My Favorite Blogs This Month) by Jacquie Schattner on the Seeds to Tree blog.

*  GAGs -  GeniAus Gems - 13 March 2015 by Jill Ball on the GeniAus blog.

*  Recommended Reads by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.

*  Friday Finds and Follows: 13 March 2015 by Miriam J. Robbins on the Ancestories: The Stories of Our Ancestors blog.

*  Follow Friday ~ Fab Finds for March 13, 2015 by Jana Last on Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog.

*  News Stories for Genealogists, March 13, 2015 by Michael J. Leclerc on the Mocavo Genealogy Blog.

*  Best Bytes for the Week of 13 March 2015 by Elizabeth O'Neal on the Little Bytes of Life blog.

*  This Week's Creme de la Creme -- March 14, 2015 by Gail Dever on the Genealogy a la Carte blog.

*  Noteworthy Reads #6 by Jo Henn on the Climbing My Family Tree blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1560 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

I've only just noticed Randy. Thankyou for the mention! I'll be doing some more research after the Canberra Congress
