Best of the Genea-Blogs - 6 to 12 September 2015

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Discovering Your Family History: 7 Unique Technologies by Esther on the MyHeritage Blog.  This post describes the Gilad Japhet keynote talk at the IAJGS Conference in Israel in July 2015.

*  The Disciplined Researcher's 20-Question Guide by Elizabeth Shown Mills on the Evidence Explained QuickTips blog.

*  Tuesday's Tip -- U.S. Dutch Reformed Church Records in Selected States, 1639-2000 by Diane Gould Hall on the Michigan Family Trails blog.  Diane shares an Ancestry.com database with lots of church records.

*  Does Ancestry Really Work? Is Ancestry a Scam and a Rip-off? by Thomas MacEntee on the Geneabloggers blog.  Thomas discusses how genealogy companies attract and deal with subscribers.

*  Searching Smarter by Diane Boumenot on the One Rhode Island Family blog.  Amen!  Diane nails it.
