52 Ancestors - Week 124: #147 Elizabeth (Fletcher) Keyes (1720-1761)

Elizabeth (Fletcher) Keyes (1720-1761) is #147 on my Ahnentafel list, my 5th great-grandmother, who married #146  Jonathan Keyes (1722-1781) in 1746.

Elizabeth Fletcher was the 5th child of nine born to Samuel and Hannah (--?--) Fletcher of Chelmsford, Massachusetts.  The birth record in the Chelmsford, Massachusetts town record book has this entry for the birth of Elizabeth Fletcher[1]:

"Elizabeth Fletcher daughter of Samuel and Hannah
Fletcher born March 9th 1719+20"

The marriage record for Jonathan Keyes and Elisabeth Fletcher in the Westford town records says[6]:

"1746 Jan 20 Jonathan Keyes to Elisabeth Fletcher both of Westford"

The births of the 7 children of Jonathan Keyes and his first wife Elisabeth are listed in the Westford town records as[3]:

"Joseph Keyes son of Jonathan Keyes and Elisabeth his wife was born
November 26, 1746
Joanna Keyes daughter of Jonathan Keyes and Elisabeth his wife was born February 14, 1748
Aaron Keyes son of Jonathan Keyes and Elisabeth his wife was

Three of her children, Joanna (the first one), Aaron and Stephen, died as small children.

Elisabeth Keyes died soon after the birth of her seventh child, Hannah.  She left four children aged 15 years, 4 years, 2 years, and 1 month old.  

The Westford, Massachusetts vital record book provides a death record for Elisabeth[4]:

"KEYES, Elisabeth, w. Jonathan, July 23, 1761, a. 41 y. 4 m 3 d. G.R.1"

Elisabeth (Fletcher) Keyes is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Westford, Massachusetts.  The inscription on her gravestone says[5]:

"Here lies the body of
Mrs. Elisabeth Keyes the wife of
Mr. Jonathan Keyes
who departed this life
July the 23d 1761
aged 41 years 4 months."
