In the Name of God Amen. The 29^th day

In ye year of our Lord one thousand
Seven hundred and Twenty one
I George brown of Eastham in the
County of Barnstable in his Maj'ties
Province of the Massachusetts Bay in
New England Yeoman Being sick
and weak In body but of perfect Mind
and memory Thanks be given
unto God therefore Calling unto mind
the Mortality of my body & Knowing
that it is appointed for all men once
to dye, Do make and ordain this my
Last Will and Testament. That is to
say Principally and first of all I give &
Recommend my soul Into the hands of God
that gave it and my body I Recom-
mend to the Earth to be buried In
decent & Christian Manner at ye discresi-
on of my Executor, Nothing Doubting but
at the General Resurrection I
Shall Receive the same again by the
Allmity power of God. And as Touching
such worly Estate wherewith it hath
pleased God to bless me In this
Life, I give and Demise and Dispose of
the same In the following manner

Imprimus I Give and bequeath to my Son
William Brown my Interest In a
piece of Sedg ground being & Lying
in Eastham at a place called the Town
flatts to him and his heirs forever.

three or four Acres of Land w^ch his
Dwelling house now Standeth Upon being
In the Town of sd Eastham
to him and his heirs forever.
Item I Give unto my Daughter Mercy
one feather bed and bolster.
Item I Give unto my Loveing wife
Mehetable All the Reminder of my whole
Estate for her Supporte as long as shee
Lives, and after her decease to be
Equally Divided among all my sons and
Daughters be it more or Less &
I likewise Constitute make and ordain
my well beloved son George
Brown my Soul Executor of this

utterly disalow revoake and Disanull

and power of Comitteing administration
of all and Singular the goods,

George Brown married Mehitable Knowles in about 1674, and they had eight children. When he wrote his will on 29 June 1719, his son James had died two days before. His son William died soon after George wrote his will. The will named his wife Mehitable and his son George Brown, who he named as executor. He also named sons James and William and daughter Mercy, but he did not name his sons Joshua Brown or Samuel Brown, his married daughter Mehitable (Brown) Hallett, nor his deceased daughter Mary (Brown) Mayo.
The inventory includes a note from Joshua Brown, presumably his son. The value of the estate was 189 pounds, 15 shillings and 2 pence.
George and Mehitable (Knowles) Brown are my 7th great-grandparents. I am descended from the son Samuel Brown (1686-1749), who married Ruth Young.
This record is indexed by Ancestry.com in their Massachusetts, Wills and Probate Records, 1635-1991 collection as "George Crowne" because the indexer was too lazy to look at all of the names in the record. The initial "brown" has a lower case B and the indexer interpreted it as a capital C.
