1) We had Marti Lewis speak on "Exploring Your DNA Results" at the Chula Vista Genealogical Society program meeting on Wednesday, 31 January. She reviewed the different types of DNA testing, and how she has used her DNA results to find and contact close and distant cousins.
2) I posted a guest article by Paul Woodbury of Legacy Tree Genealogists on "Going Beyond Ethnicity Estimates in DNA Testing" which didn't get much attention. It should, because it's wonderful. Please read it to help your understanding of DNA testing and analysis.
3) After posting "Seavers in the News -- George W. Seaver Disappears in 1899," I heard from my friend Barry who provided several more newspaper articles about the incident and George's life. Then he found several records that really helped fill in George's life story, and that of his wife. I worked on finding records on my own over the weekend, and entering him into my database, because it was an interesting Seaver case study. More on this soon!
4) I downloaded the Wednesday handouts for RootsTech 2017, as described in "RootsTech 2018 Syllabus Articles Are Available on Mobile App and Web Browser," but have not yet downloaded the handouts for the other days.
5) I started a DNA match spreadsheet for my MyHeritage matches, but added only 10 entries to date. I need to do more every day if possible.
6) Today's Mondays with Myrt webinar highlighted DearMYRTLE study groups, Jennifer Holik's World War II books and RootsTech classes, using WorldCat, Paul's DNA article, Yvette Hoitink's article on wrong data in family trees, the UK 1939 Register in Findmypast, the Heirloom Recipes group on Facebook, and more.
7) I have 263 Shared Ancestors on my AncestryDNA list (I had 268 last week), 716 4th cousins or closer (up from 709 last week), 615 pages (over 30,700 matches with at least 5 cM) (was 606 pages last week) of matches. I have 82 matches with 34 cM (0.5%) or more. My highest match has 779 cM (11.5%). I have 14 DNA Circles (no change for weeks). There were no new close matches (3rd cousin or closer). Very few of the new matches have an Ancestry Member Tree.
8) I have 2,570 DNA Matches on MyHeritage (up from 2,443 last week) with at least 8 cM (0.1%), with 17 matches with more than 34 cM (0.5%) or more (was 17 last week). The highest match is 184 cM (2.5%). Most of my close matches have very small trees with no common ancestors shown.
9) I have 1,142 DNA Relatives on 23andMe (down from 1,142 last week) who share at least 0.10% with me. Of these, only 1 shares 1.0% or more, and 18 share 0.50% or more (was 35 last week), with the highest match being 1.54%. I struggle to find out anything about most of these testers.
10) I have 2,343 autosomal DNA Matches on FamilyTreeDNA (up from 2,306) who share 0.25% (18 cM) or more, with the highest match being 96 cM (1.42%). I have 12 who share at least 1.0% (68 cM) with me, and 1,263 who share at least 0.50% (34 cM) or more (was 1213 last week) with me. I have had better luck finding shared ancestors here with a few of these testers.
1129 There were almost daily sessions working in RootsMagic to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 22,450 of my persons with FSFT. I now have 49,619 persons in my RootsMagic file. I TreeShare almost every night. There were also several sessions in Ancestry Hints to add content and source citations for the new RootsMagic profile additions. I've fallen behind on the Record Hints with 57,349 waiting to be resolved, but I'm working on them. Every time I add something to RootsMagic and TreeShare, the Hints multiply.
