Here are some of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:
1) Moderated the SDGS RootsMagic User's Group meeting at the FamilySearch Library in Mission Valley on Saturday. We had 11 attendees, and discussed creating groups, making a list of persons in a specific cemetery, making an image of two newspaper article snips, printing all media attachments, and changing the primary name of a person. In addition, we talked about finding and using WebHints and exchanging information with the FamilySearch Family Tree.
2) The monthly meeting of the Chula Vista Genealogical Society was Wednesday and the speaker was Claire Santos-Daigle of the Photos Made Perfect website. She described the different fashion trends seen through the decades from 1840s to 1940s, with an emphasis on the 1840s to the 1850s.
3) Found and transcribed the will of Daniel Morse (1611-1688) of Sherborn, Massachusetts in the Suffolk county (Mass.) probate record volumes, and used it for today's Amanuensis Monday post.
4) My best "find" of the week was the 1916 death certificate in Los Angeles city records on FamilySearch digital microfilm that provided a middle name, a death date, and parents names for my target person. I wrote about it in Finding FREE Los Angeles California Death Certificates for 1905-1939 on FamilySearch Digital microfilm. After one success, I looked for five more on digital microfilm and did not find any others. Bummer!
5) Took part in the Mondays With Myrt webinar today, but got on 30 minutes late due to computer problems. We discussed THE Genealogy Show, the Pirates of the Pedigree virtual Conference, the MyHeritage Conference in Oslo, my FamilySearch find of a 1916 death certificate in Los Angeles, Pat's DAR application and True's visit to the DAR conference, Chrome extensions for DNA, and copyright issues for a book page image.
6) Watched one webinar at Family Tree Webinars ("Your Ancestors Didn’t Leave a Paper Trail: Are You?" by Melissa Barker) and one webinar on DNA Central ("Mapping Your Chromosomes With DNA Painter" by Blaine Bettinger).
7) Added about 20 more charts to the presentation for my genealogy research project - researching the ancestry of a local personality, and will present what I find at the CVGS Family History Day in September. The presentation is about 50% done now. I TreeShared once and worked through one session of adding Ancestry Hints to the RootsMagic tree, which has grown to 500 persons with 1,496 citations.
8) There were several sessions working in RootsMagic to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other database families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 24,893 of my persons with FSFT. I now have 50,433 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 95,210 source citations. I TreeShared twice during the last week, and resolved some Ancestry Hints once. I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 70,093 waiting to be resolved, but I'm working on them.
9) Have 296 Shared Ancestors on my AncestryDNA list (I had 292 last week), 944 4th cousins or closer (I had 929 last week), and 855 pages (over 42,700 matches with at least 6 cM) (was 841 pages last week) of matches. I have 23 DNA Circles (was 21 last week). I have 14 matches that are third cousins or closer, and 100 matches with 34 cM (0.5%) or more (was 99 last week). My highest match has 779 cM (11.5%), and is one of my first cousins. My ethnicity estimate has not been modified yet.
10) Have 4,258 DNA Matches on MyHeritage (up from 4,206 last week) with at least 8 cM (0.12%), with 24 matches with more than 34 cM (0.5%) or more (was 24 last week). I have three close relatives, including a first cousin once removed, and two first cousins twice removed. The highest DNA match is 512 cM (7.1%).
11) Have 984 DNA Relatives on 23andMe (I had 984 last week) who share at least 0.10% (7 cM) with me. The two closest relatives are third cousins. Of these, only 3 share 1.0% or more, and 47 share 0.50% or more (was 46 last week), with the highest match being 1.54%. My highest match is an adoptee. I struggle to find out anything about most of these testers.
12) Have 2,728 autosomal DNA Matches on FamilyTreeDNA (up from 2,712 last week) who share 0.25% (18 cM) or more, with the highest match being 96 cM (1.42%). I have 12 who share at least 1.0% (68 cM) with me, and 1,476 who share at least 0.50% (34 cM) or more (was 1,435 last week) with me.
13) Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which two were press releases. The most popular post last week was "Finding FREE Los Angeles California Death Certificates for 1905-1939 on FamilySearch Digital microfilm." with over 652 views.
