Seavers in the News -- Mrs. Jane E. Seaver Dies in New York in 1919

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a semi-regular feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the New York [N.Y.] Tribune newspaper dated Tuesday, 11 February 1919:

The transcription of this obituary is:

"MRS. JANE E. Seaver, eighty three years old, widow of T. Mortimer Seaver, died yesterday in the home of Mrs. R. Sims, 109 West Eighty-fourth Street, of illness incidental to advanced age.  She leaves two sons, T. Mortimer and Harlan Seaver, both of  this city."

The source citation for this obituary is:

"Mrs. Jane E. Seaver,New York [N.Y.] Tribune newspaper, Tuesday, 11 February 1919, page 9, column 8, Mrs. Jane E. Seaver obituary; digital image, Newspapers.com   (www.newspapers.com :  accessed 19 July 2018).

I had Jane E. as the wife of True Mortimer Seaver (1839-1889) in my RootsMagic family tree, and the two sons.  However, I did not have Jane's maiden name.  The obituary above does not provide it.

There is one error in the obituary - the first son mentioned should be F. (for "Frank") Mortimer Seaver, not T. Mortimer.  The second son is called "Harlan" but his full name was Arthur Harlan Seaver.

So I checked out the Web Hints for her and her two sons.  A FamilySearch WebHint for son Arthur Harlan Seaver's 1908 marriage to Elizabeth McEntee indicates his parents names are True Mortimer [Seaver] and Jane E. Watson.

That's cool - I added Jane's death record, solved the mystery of her maiden name, and added a marriage record to Arthur and Elizabeth (McEntee) Seaver.  Win-win-win!!!
