Monday Genea-Pourri - 11 February 2019

Here is a summary of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Board meeting on Wednesday, 6 February.  I reported on the Research Group, DNA Interest Group and February Newsletter.

2)  Wrote, edited, published and mailed the February 2019 CVGS Newsletter.  Our speaker this month is CVGS member John Finch, and the Spotlight member of the month was Karen Yarger, our Secretary.

4)  Wrote a biography of 6th great-grandmother #433 Amy (Terrell) Vaux (1708-1780) of South Petherton, Somerset, England for my 52 Ancestors post on Friday.

5)  Found several new "Seaver Genealogy" websites by searching on Yippy.com - was able to add more Seaver people to my RootsMagic tree from the Irish Seavers website.

6)  Watched one Family Tree Webinar this past week - DNA and the GPS solves a mystery: Hamiltons in Colonial New England, by Shellee Morehead.  This study used Y-DNA to prove the case.

7)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt.  Subjects discussed were AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, DNA Painter and Genetic Affairs; the SAR and DAR application process; the MyHeritage LIVE 2019 conference in September in Amsterdam; Jim's FamilySearch Family Tree problem; WikiTree features; RootsTech business cards; and my Ancestry.com blog post about new record collections.

8) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 29,263 of my RootsMagic persons with FSFT.

9)  I continue to use Web Hints from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 52,256 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 101,081 source citations.   I TreeShared two times during the last week (about 210 profiles), and resolved about 750 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 93,595 waiting to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

10) Wrote 19 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which two were press releases.  The most popular post last week was A Reader's Take on Ancestry.com Problems - Part III - Reduced Number of New Record Collections with over 792 views.

11)  We visited Tami's family in Huntington Beach on Thursday, and had fun talking and playing with the three grandkids.  After dinner, we attended the Boys and Girls Club presentation of Seussical with Audrey (a Who) and Lauren (Mrs. Mayor Who) performing.  This production team does a great job.  The girls love it!  We were home by 10:30 p.m (only 100 miles away).
