Seavers in the News - J.W. Seaver Dies in Waynesville, N.C. in 1939

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Asheville [N.C.] Citizen-Times newspaper dated 2 January 1940:

The transcription of the article is:

"SEAVER FUNERAL RITES ARE HELD IN WAYNESVILLE

"WAYNESVILLE, Jan. 1. (Special).  Funeral rites for J.W. Seaver, who died in an Asheville hospital Friday evening at 6 o'clock, were held at the home here on Haywood street Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock.  The Rev. W. Herbert Mayers, rector of Grace Episcopal church of Waynesville, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Dr. R.P. Walker, pastor of the Presbyterian church here.  Interment was in Green Hill cemetery.

"Active pallbearers were:  Dr. S.P. Gay, M.C. Green, F.W. Curits, William Shoolbred, William Medford, and Colonel J.H. Howell.

"Honorary pallbearers were:  J.R. Boyd, Clyde H. Ray, Sr., Dr. Tom Stringfield, Hugh J. Sloan, James Jones, James R. Thomas, Jr., M.T. McCracken, E.L. Withers, L.N. Davis, Harry Hall, R.N. Barber, Sr., and Dr. R.H. Stretcher.

"Mr. Seaver was born in Boston, Mass., on March 9, 1872.  He was a graduate of Harvard university in the Boston School of Technology.  He came to Waynesville 35 years ago as a civil engineer.  He was employed upon many important engineering projects in Waynesville, Haywood county public works, and in private industry.

"He is survived by his widow, who was, before their marriage, Mrs. Jennie Brice, of Winnsboro, S.C.; two daughters, Miss Nora Seaver, of Stamford, Conn., and Mrs. Dorothy Anderson, of Washington, D.C., and one sister, Miss Sue Seaver, of Boston, Mass."

I looked in my RootsMagic family tree database for J.W. Seaver.  Is it James, John, Joseph or some other J.?  I looked for Jennie Brice and didn't find her.  The daughters names, Dora and Dorothy, led me to Jacob Weld Seaver in my database, born 19 March 1871 in Boston, who married Blanche H. Barry (1874-1922) before 1900.  So Mrs. Jennie Brice of Winnsboro, S.C. is probably a second wife.  I did not have Jacob Weld Seaver's death date (the Friday before the obituary was 29 December 1939), nor his second wife's name (Jennie (?????) Brice), nor his daughter Dorothy's married name (Anderson).  

Jacob Weld Seaver was the son of Jacob Weld Seaver (1820-1914) and Sarah Abby Weld (1829-1911) of Boston, Massachusetts. He is my 6th cousin three times removed.
