Monday Genea-Pourri - 8 April 2019

Here is a summary of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) board meeting on Wednesday, and reported on the Newsletter, the Research Group and the DNA Interest Group.

2)  Wrote and edited the CVGS Newsletter for April 2019, and I will send it via email tonight.  I will publish it and mail it to the postal members on Monday.

3)  Taught the first class of my "Beginning Computer Genealogy" class at OASIS (a senior adult education center) on Thursday.  I have seven students eager to learn about genealogy and using the computer to find records and record family history.  We covered the basics principles of genealogy research, an introduction to genealogy software, and free online resources.

4)  Found and transcribed the 1843 mortgage release of 3rd great-grandfather Zachariah Hildreth for land in Townsend, Mass. to James Hildreth for Amanuensis Monday.

5)  Wrote and posted a biography of 6th great-grandmother #445 Melatiah (Hamant) Metcalf (1704-1751) of Medfield, Mass. and Keene, N.H.  for my 52 Ancestors post on Friday.

6)  Watched two Family Tree Webinars - No Purchase Necessary: Free Genealogy Tools for Your iPad/iPhone, by Devin Ashby; and An Introduction to DNA Painter, by Jonny Perl.

7)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt.  Today's webinar discussed the NERGC Conference; Gaylord Archival products; two new books by Jim Beidler and Angela Waton-Raji; health issues, memories and stories; Yvonne's newspaper find; my Dear Randy post about Family Tree Maker and online trees; FamilySearch Family Tree records; the SSDI and SSA&C collections; Vivid Pix.

8) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 30,307 of my RootsMagic persons with FSFT.  Updated and cleaned up the Family Tree profiles for three ancestors, including life sketches, sources and notes.

9)  I continue to use Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 53,205 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 103,304 source citations.   I did not TreeShare this week, but I did resolve about 520 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 106,379 to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

10)  Baseball season started two weeks ago, and we have watched every game so far.  We went to the game on Tuesday against Arizona. The good news is that the Padres are 6-4 on the season so far.

11)  Linda's brother Paul came to visit on Saturday, and we spent all afternoon looking at photographs and ephemera from the two boxes that we received after their father died.  Paul picked out about 40 photographs to scan that he wants, so we spent some time scanning, editing and naming them, and I need to email them to him this week.  There are many photos from 1970 until about 1990 of our family showing the girls as they grew up.  This was fun!!

12) Wrote 20 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was Treasure Chest Thursday - 1751 Death of Melatiah Metcalf in Keene, New Hampshire with over 610 views.  I wonder why?
