Seavers in the News - Mrs. Seaver Dies in Duxbury, Vermont in 1910

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Waterbury [Vt.] Record newspaper dated 20 December 1910:

The transcription of the article is:

"Mrs. Seaver

"Mrs. Seaver died at the home of her son Charles on Crossett Hill in Duxbury Wednesday about noon.  She was born in Hinesburg in 1827 and in 1850 married Silas Seaver.  Most of her life had been spent in Moretown and Duxbury.  Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Seaver, three of whom survive their mother, Mrs. Anna Jackman of Elmore, Mrs. Louise Houston of Stowe and Charles Seaver of Duxbury, with whom she lived.  The funeral was held 10 o'clock from the home of her son.  The interment was on Moretown Common."

This is another obituary where the subject's first name and maiden name are not mentioned, but it does name her husband and three children, and not the cause of death or anything about her life.  

Mrs. Silas Seaver was Mary Ann Spear (1831-1910), daughter of Charles S. and Anna Lucinda (Hollis) Spear.  Mary Ann married Silas Hubbel Seaver (1827-1889) in 1850.  They had five children:

*  Josiah Willis Seaver (1853-1863).

*  Louisa Seaver (1853-1936), married 1877 Henry F. Houston (1854-1911).

*  Charles S. Seaver (1860-1928).

*  Anna L. Seaver (1864-????), married 1884 Charles W. Jackman (1858-????)

*  Ida May Seaver (1868-1890) married 1890 Frank L. Latouche (1865-1912)

I did not have the death dates for several of the children, and did not have the spouse names of two of the children before finding this obituary and doing some research today.

Silas Hubbel Seaver is my 4th cousin 4 times removed, and his children are my 5th cousin 3 times removed.  

There are over 8,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes the life of a person is memorialized in an obituary without her given forename or maiden surname.  I am glad I can honor Mary Ann (Spear) Seaver today.
