It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.
This week's entry is from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper dated 29 February 1924:
The transcription of the article is:
"SEAVER -- Entered into rest, suddenly, on Thursday, Feb. 28, 1924, at 5 p.m. Harry Seaver, dearly beloved husband of Marie L. Seaver (nee Wahl), and dear father of Wallace Seaver, dear son of Henry Seaver and the late Emelia Seaver, dear brother of Clara Seaver and our grandson, son-in-law nd nephew, in his thirty-second year.
"Funeral Sunday March 2, at 3 p.m., from Provost-Drehman chapel, 3710 North Grand bl. to St. Peter's Cemetery. (c6)"
The source citation is:

This is an excellent very short death notice - it provides the names of his spouse, his son, his parents and his sister. But it doesn't give any biographical information about Harry Seaver. What did he do for a living? Where did he live? What did he die from? For that, I found his death certificate which is online at the Missouri Secretary of State Vital Records Death Certificates website - see it here (indexed on Ancestry.com). The answers to my questions are:
* What did he do for a living? Harry was an insurance broker.
* Where did he live? Harry's family resided at 2923A Sidney in St. Louis, Missouri.
* What did he die from? A Suicide, by carbon monoxide poisoning by a gas range.
Oh. That's sad. What a tragedy for this family. The son was only 18 months old when this happened.
Harry F. Seaver (1882-1924) is in my RootsMagic family tree, the son of Henry and Emelia (Schulte) Seaver. He married Marie L. Wahl (1899-1977) in about 1920 and they had Wallace Fred Seaver on 31 October 1922 in St. Louis. After Harry's death, Marie (Wahl) Seaver married, secondly, on 3 September 1924 to Bernard J. Schilling (1896-1973) in St. Louis. They had at least one child, Jack Schilling (1927-2004).
I am not related to Harry Seaver. His grandparents, August and Minnie (ripke) Seaver were German immigrants who settled in St. Louis in the 1860s.
There are over 9,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - this was one of them. Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes it is a tragic life story. I am glad that I can honor Harry F. Seaver today.
