Seavers in the News -- Charles M. Seaver Dies in 1933 in Williamstown, Vermont

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Burlington [Vt.] Free Press newspaper dated 25 March 1933:

The transcription of the article is:

"Charles M. Seaver, Williamstown, Dies

(Special to the Free Press)

"WILLIAMSTOWN, March 24 -- Charles M. Seaver, 73, a life-long resident of this village and connected with its mercantile activities for a great many years, died at 6:30 o'clock this morning at his home following an attack of the grip which developed into bronchial pneumonia.  He had been in failing health since 1927.

"Born in Williamstown, March 14, 1860, the son of David Monroe and Lydia Bruce Seaver, both natives of Williamstown, Mr. Seaver received his early education in the local schools.  In 1904, in company with his cousin, Louis M. Seaver, he formed a partnership of Charles H. Seaver and Company, establishing a wholesale business in grain, flour and building materials, later adding an electric grinding mill to the business.  Lately the business has been conducted by Walter M. Simons, a partner.

"Mr. Seaver married Elizabeth A. Work on October 23, 1912.  She died July 16, 1932.  Mr. Seaver leaves several cousins, nephews and nieces, among the cousins being Mrs. L.O. Morgan of Roxbury; and Miss Myrtle Seaver and Mrs. Leslie E. Williams of Williamstown.

"Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the late home with the Rev. C.B. Salisbury, pastor of the Congregational Church officiating.  Interment will take place in the family lot in Williamstown cemetery."

The source citation is:

This obituary provides a death date, a birth date, parents names, spouse's name and death date, marriage date, work history, and names of several cousins.  However, his father's name was James Monroe Seaver, not David Monroe Seaver.  

I had Charles Mead Seaver  (1860-1933) in my RootsMagic family tree database, including his birth date, death date, spouse's name and marriage date.  

Elizabeth Ann Work (1863-1932) was the sister of Sarah Chastina Work (1851-1920), who was the second wife of Charles M. Seaver's father, James Monroe Seaver (1834-1901).  Charles Seaver and elizabeth Work married later inl ife - Charles was 52 and Elizabeth 49.  Charles and Elizabeth (Work) Seaver had no children.

The cousin who he started the mercantile company with was Lewis Mead Seaver (1848-1911), a second cousin.  Mrs. L.O. Morgan was Bertha Lillian Seaver (1882-1865), who married Lester Oscar Morgan (1875-1965) in 1904.  Miss Myrtle Seaver was Myrtle Belle Seaver (1869-1933).  Bertha and Myrtle were daughters of Samuel Martin Seaver (1839-1916), a brother of Charles Mead Seaver, and his first cousins.  

I am a 7th cousin 3 times removed to Charles Mead Seaver. 

There are over 9,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and some persons have a useful life, marry at an older age and don't have children.  I am glad that I can honor Charles Mead Seaver today.  

You never know when a descendant will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors, or will provide more information about them.
