Seavers in the News -- Ruth (Albrecht) Seaver Dies in 1952 in Florida

 It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Portage [Wis.] Daily Journal newspaper dated 25 March 1952:

The transcription of the article is:

"Mrs. Seaver Rites to Be Thursday

"Funeral services for Mrs. Harlan Seaver, 42, who died at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., early Sunday, will be held at the Albrecht residence in Columbus at 2 p.m. Thursday.

"The Rev. Fred Blume will officiate with burial at Hillside cemetery.

"The former Ruth Emily Albrecht was born in Columbus.  She attended Columbus public schools and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.  She taught at Wausau four years, Oconomowoc two years, and at Madison East high school for two years.

"She was married to Harlan Seaver in Columbus, 14 years ago.  Mrs. Seaver, her husband, and her mother had gone to their Florida home two weeks ago.

"Mrs. Seaver was chairman of the Columbus Red Cross chapter for the past eight years, a member of the Zion Lutheran church and had operated the Albrecht Furniture Store and Funeral Home in Columbus with her sister for 3-1/2 years after the death of her father, Otto Albrecht, almost four years ago.

"Mrs. Seaver was the niece of Mrs. William Tanke and Mrs. Edgar Tessman of this city."

This obituary provides a name, an age, a death date and place, the names of her husband, father and two nieces, plus a description of her work history and associations.

Ruth Emily Albrecht was born in 1909 in Columbus, Wisconsin, the daughter of Otto and Annie (--?--) Albrecht.  She died 23 March 1952 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  She married Harlan Eugene Seaver (1913-1978) on 23 July 1938 in Columbus, Wisconsin.  They had no children.

I am not related to Harlan Eugene Seaver to my knowledge.  He is descended from Henry and Elizabeth (--?--) Seaver who married before 1770 in Virginia.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person dies suddenly at a relatively young age after serving her community. I am glad that I can honor Ruth Emily (Albrecht) Seaver today.
