Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 20 September 2021

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and led the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom with 18 in attendance.  We discussed AncestryDNA's ethnicity estimates, the delay in new AncestryDNA matches, the FamlyTreeDNA improvements, the Leeds Method, my Leeds Method chart for FamilyTreeDNA, and the Genetic Affairs AutoKinship charts.  In the second hour, we had a Q&A session.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society British Isles Interest Group meeting on Saturday morning.  Colin Whitney presented information about land and property records in Scotland and Ireland.

3)  Attended the Whittier Are Genealogical Society program meeting on Saturday afternoon.  Gena Philibert-Ortega presented "We’re Related to George Washington?: Proving Family Stories."

4)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt webinar.  We discussed Dave's DNA quandary, Liv's blog post on Norway child wanderers, Frank's new blog and German maps, Pat's challenge of one name, two persons?, My AncestryDNA ethnicity and Leeds Method chart, and Hillary's comments on the Frith collection on Findmypast.

6)  Published a genealogy biography of  7th great-grandfather #620 John Maynard (1661-1731)  of Marlborough, Massachusetts.

7)  Updated my Leeds Method chart for AncestryDNA matches and made a chart for FamilyTreeDNA matches.

8)  AncestryDNA added 80 new DNA matches this past week, with no new ThruLines and  MyHeritage added 16 new DNA matches.   Reviewed the new DNA matches on  AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.  Added Notes to 0 more AncestryDNA match and 1 MyHeritageDNA match with cM values, relationships and known shared ancestors, and added no new ThruLines to RootsMagic.

9)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 44,596 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 173).

10)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 65,811  persons in my RootsMagic file (up 196), and 142,246 source citations (up 164).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree two times the past week updating 368 profiles, and I resolved 619 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 158,505 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

11)  Wrote 19 Genea-Musings blog posts the past week, of which three were a press release.  The most viewed post the past week was My Updated AncestryDNA Leeds Method Chart with over 287 views.

12)  I am still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 79 of COVID-19 isolation.  Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visit her for an hour every day.  The physical therapists came twice last week and have started more rehab exercises.  She went to the orthopedist today and he said she can try to walk now using a walker.  The Padres season continues, and the Padres are now 76-73 (2-4 the past week).  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, watching TV news and sports, reading books, napping, and a little yard work.
