Seavers in the News -- Kenneth G. Seaver Dies in 1961 in Barre, Vermont

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the The Times-Argus [Barre, Vt.] newspaper dated 17 May 1961:

The transcription of the article is:

"Kenneth G. Seaver

"Kenneth G. Seaver, 43, of Washington, died last night at Barre City Hospital.

"He was born in Washington, Aug. 15, 1917, son of Leo and Edith (Hanson) Seaver.  He attended Washington public schools and Spaulding High School.

"His marriage to Anita Bernatchy took place Sept. 10, 1938 in Barre.

"He leaves his wife; four daughters, Elaine, a student at Fanny Allen hospital School of Nursing in Winooski; Nancy Jean, Diana Sue, and Cynthia, all at home; a brother, Paul Seaver, Barre, and a sister Mrs. William (Lola) Carle, Washington, as well as several nieces and nephews.

"After their marriage, the Seavers lived in Washington until 1940 when they moved to Barre, going to South Barre in 1943, and returning to Washington in 1953.  He had worked at Modern Granite Co. as a maintenance man for the past 15 years.

"He was a member of the Washington PTA, the Chelsea Fish and Game Club, had been a selectman for a three-year term, a justice of the peace and was a member of the Grange when it was active in Washington.

"Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Universalist Church in Washington.

"Friends may call at the Whitcomb Funeral Home, 102 Washington St., Barre, tonight and tomorrow from 7-9.

"Burial will be in Washington cemetery."

This obituary provides the name, age, birthdate and place, parents names, death date and place, spouse's name, children's names, plus residence, occupation and associations information.  

Kenneth Gordon Seaver (1917-1961) was born 15 August 1917 in Washington, Vermont, the son of Leo and Edith (Hanson) Seaver.  He died at age 43 on 16 May 1961 in Barre, Vermont.  He married Anita Eleanor Bernatchy (1919-2015) on  10 September 1938 in Barre, Vermont.  They had four children:

*  Elaine Anita Seaver, married 1971 Ronald M. Curtis.

*  Nancy Jean Seaver, married 1961 Lawrence W. Ferno.

*  Diana Sue Seaver.

*  Cynthia Ann Seaver, married 1977 Shannon J. Davenport.

Kenneth Gordon Seaver (1917-1961) is my 8th cousin 2 times removed.  Our common Seaver ancestor is Robert Seaver (1608-1683) who came to Roxbury, Massachusetts in 1634.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person's obituary provides lots of interesting information. I am glad that I can honor Kenneth Gordon Seaver today.
