Vauxes in the News -- Frederick J. Vaux Dies in 1938 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania

 It's time for another edition of "Vauxes in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Vaux (my 2nd great-grandmother's maiden surname) that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Intelligencer Journal [Lancaster, Penn]  newspaper dated 12 December 1938:

The transcription of the article is:

Frederick John Vaux (1862-1938) was born in September 1962 in Washington, D.C., the son of Ethan P. and Margaret (Gaskins) Vaux.  He married Ellen E. McAuliff (1865-????) on 25 November 1891 in Washington D.C.  He died 11 December 1938 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  They had four children:

*  Marie Margaret Vaux (1895-????), married 1919 Willard Dent Johnson (1880-1947)
*  Catherine L. Vaux (1897-????)
*  Charlotte Anne Vaux (1898-1976), married Raymond Walter Grove (1895-1975)
*  Helen Vaux (1899-????).

I am a second cousin three times removed to Frederick John Vaux (1862-1938), with common ancestors of James Vaux (1787-1839) and Mary Palmer (1790-1845), who migrated from South Petherton, Somerset, England to Erie County, New York in the early 1830s.

There are hundreds of Vaux "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them. Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has an interesting careeer and obituary.  I am glad that I can honor Frederick John Vaux today.

You never know when a descendant, relative or friend will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
