Seavers in the News -- 1968 Obituary of Charles H. Seaver (1887-1968) of Vermont

 Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Rutland [Vt.] Daily Herald newspaper dated 10 May 1968, page 15:

The transcription of the article is:

"CHARLES H. SEAVER

"Proctorsville -- Burial services for Charles H. Seaver, 82, who died Wednesday in Seal Beach, Calif., will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 p.m. n Hillcrest Cemetery here by the Rev. Lewis Taylor, pastor of the St. James Methodist Church.

"Mr. Seaver was born March 14, 1886 in Cavendish, son of John R. and Hattie J. (Clark) Seaver.

"Mr. Seaver was a retired salesman for the Jones & Lamson Machine Co. of Springfield.

"He is survived by his wife, the former Minnie Stafford of Proctorsville;  a son, Volney Seaver of Urbans, Ohio; a grandson; a great-granddaughter, a sister Mrs. Chivey J. Chase of Charlestiown, N.H. and nephews."

This obituary identifies his name, age, implied death date and place, spouse's name, parent's names, children's names, some work history, a church organization, but no cause of death information.

Charles H. Seaver was born 14 March 1887 in Cavendish, Vermont, the son of John R. and Hattie J. (Clark) Seaver.  He died 7 May 1968 in Seal Beach, California.  He married Minnie B. Stammers (1887-1982) on 19 October 1906 in Cavendish, Vermont.  They had one son:

*  Volney John Seaver (1908-1980), married Adelle Edyth Weiner (1910-1999) on 1 May 1934 in Girard, Pennsylvania.

Charles H. Seaver (1887-1968) is my fifth cousin four times removed.  Our common Seaver ancestor is my 8th great-grandfather Shubael Seaver (1640-1729).

 

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a man had a relatively small family.  I am glad that I can honor Charles H. Seaver today.
