Seavers in the News -- Obituary of William P. Seaver (1882-1962) in the Washington, D.C. Newspaper

Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Evening Star [Washington, DC] newspaper dated Monday, 24 December 1962, page B-3, Column 4:

The transcription of the article is:

"William Seaver Funeral Is Held

"William P. Seaver, Assistant United States Commissioner for Public housing from 1938 until he retired in 1952, died in New York Thursday.

"He served as assistant in charge of housing development during World War II, overseeing construction of houses at shipyards and airplane plants throughout the country.

"His wife, the former Minerva Ray, died here in 1950.

"Private burial was yesterday in Stow, Mass., his wife's birthday."

This obituary provides the name, age, wife's name, death day, death place, burial place, and employment; but not his age, his parents names, his birth or marriage date and place, cause of death, associations, or education.

William Parker Seaver (1882-1962) was born 6 August 1882 in Newton, Massachusetts, the son of William and Jennie (Blundell) Seaver.  He died 20 December 1962 in New York City.  He married Minerva Abby Ray (1882-1947) in January 1906, probably in Stow, Massachusetts.  They had no children.

I am 1 6th cousin 4 times removed to William Parker Seaver, with our common Seaver ancestor my 9th great-grandfather, Robert Seaver (1608-1683).

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this is one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person serves his country well.  I am glad that I can honor William Parker Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
