Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending Sunday, 16 March 2025).
1) Hosted and moderated the CVGS Research Group Meeting on Wednesday. I reported on the RootsTech 2025 conference, the major announcements during rootsTech and the month before, including MyHeritage Cousin Finder, Ancestry Networks, FamilySearch Together and AI Research Assistant, and the classes I took, plus AI activities ovr the past month.
2) Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society British Isles Interest Group meeting on Saturday, hosted by Colin Whitney. He discussed UK/Irish collections in FamilySearch Full-Test Search and demonstrated how to find them and use them.
3) Attended two presentations by Daniel Horowitz of MyHeritage at the San Diego FamilySearch Center. He discussed MyHeritage Photo features and Using Your Research Time.
4) Watched several more RootsTech 2025 online classes and several YouTube videos from the RootsTech Expo Hall pages. Also watched several recent Family Tree Webinars.
5) Transcribed the 1892 Affidavit of Frederick Hugh Crabb giving a life lease to Alexander Sovereen for Land in Norfolk County, Ontario for Amanuensis Monday.
7) Curated genealogy-related articles to keep myself and my readers updated on the genealogy world in:
9) Requested free AI tools to tell me about these genealogy subjects:
11) My AncestryDNA now has 48,655 DNA matches (up 45 from 9 March) with 2068 "close" matches today (up 2), with no new ThruLines. Added Notes to 6 Matches, and added no new DNA match line to RootsMagic. MyHeritageDNA now has 13,363 DNA matches (up 29 from 9 March) for me. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.
12) Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree. I have matched 52,508 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 33).
13) Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles. My RootsMagic family tree now has 74,293 profiles (up 33 from last week) and 147,395 source citations (up 4). Added more short biographical sketches and source citations to ancestors, and edited historical place names for a number of families.
14) Real life events: Visited Linda several days at her memory care facility and we played Uno. Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Went out to dinner with Daniel and Debbie Horowitz after his Sunday talk. I'm still reading Game of Snipers by Stephen Hunter. My SDSU Aztecs were 0-1 in college basketball, so are now 21-9, and are an 11th seed in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. The Padres exhibition games have started and some are on TV.
