Best of the Genea-Blogs - 25 November to 1 December 2012

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.
My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for the genealogy carnivals, or other meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  1620 and All That - Resources for Mayflower Research by Carolyn L. Barkley on the GenealogyAndFamilyHistory.com blog.  Carolyn provides a Mayflower link compendium for early Plymouth history and genealogy.

*  Early Cemetery Sleuthing Leads to Lessons Learned by Patricia Desmond Biallas on the GeneaJouneys blog.  We can all learn from the stories Patricia tells about her own experiences.

*  Clueless About That Clue by Jacqi Stevens on the A Family Tapestry blog.  We've all done it - Jacqi is trying to figure out the source of a record she copied at ACPL.

*  The Drive-by Genealogist's Lament by Tim Forsythe on the Tim Forsythe:Blog.  Tim dioscusses the Moody column, and uses the "lazy" word to describe drive-by folks.

*  Evaluating Evidence Part 2 -  Who, Why and When by Michele Simmons Lewis on Ancestoring's Ask a Genealogist blog.  Michele highlights the importance of doing evidence evaluation with some great examples.

*  The Path of a Beginner Genealogist by Julie Cahill Tarr on the GenBlog blog.  Julie analyzes the three phases of becoming a genealogist, and recounts her own research journey.  Like most of us, it's a journey still in progress.

*  Transitions by Susan Petersen on the Long Lost Relatives.net blog.  Susan has an important message for those with elderly parents - capture their memories now rather than later.

*  Looking at the News Sites by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  Judy compares Terms of Conditions for GenealogyBank, NewspaperARCHIVE and Newspapers.com.

*  MyHeritage Gobbles Geni by Tamura Jones on the Modern Software Experience blog.  Tamura summarizes the MyHeritage acquisitions, and discusses the Geni changes.

*  Blogging Genealogy:  Deter Image Theft with FHOP by Caroline M. Pointer on the BloggingGenealogy.com blog.  Ehat's FHOP, you ask?  Read the post...Caroline has great ideas about creating images, too.

These genea-bloggers wrote weekly pick posts and news summary posts this week:

*  Monday Morning Mentions by Lynn Palermo on The Armchair Genealogist blog.

*  Monday Mentionables, 11-19 to 11-25 by Cyndi Beane Henry (Texicanwife) on the Mountain Genealogists blog.

*  Monday Recap for November 26th, 2012 by Amanda on the Geni Blog.

*  Genealogy News Corral, Nov. 26-30 by Beth on the Genealogy Insider blog.

*  Follow Friday - Favorites by Heather Roelker on the Leaves for Trees blog.

*  Follow Friday - Fab Finds for November 30, 2012 by Jana Last on Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog.

*  From the Blogs, November 30 by Michael Leclerc on the Mocavo Genealogy Blog.

*  Friday Finds - 11/30/12 by Julie Cahill Tarr on the GenBlog blog.

*  Weekly Genealogy Picks: Nov. 25 - Dec. 1 by John Newmark on the TransylvanianDutch blog.

I encourage readers to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Google Reader, RSS feed or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1300 genealogy bloggers using Google Reader, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Randy,
The link for the article about the "Drive-By Genealogist" is incorrect. It takes you to the Mayflower blog

Randy, I was just checking my blog analytics and was pleasantly surprised to see so much traffic coming from your site. Thank you so much for the mention!

Great list! It's nice to have this after being away on vacation because there is no way I could catch up on my regular blog reading...

Following 1300 blogs is a LOT! How do you manage it? Can you share you top 100 (for example) with your readers?

I know that at least for myself (and probably for most of your readers), I'm always on the lookout for some good reading (genealogically speaking). Are you willing to share some of your favourites?
