Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 200: 1855 Passenger List for James Richman

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - time to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the Passenger List record for James Richman in 1855 arriving in New York

The top of this particular passenger list for the Ship Calhoun, Daniel H. Truman master, which sailed from Liverpool and arrived in New York on 22 October 1855, is:

And a snippet of the entry for James Richman:

The information for James Richman on this record is:

*  Name:  James Richman
*  Age: 36 years
*  Sex:  Male
*  Occupation:  Laborer
*  The country in which they several belong:  England
*  The country in which they intend to become inhabitants:  U.S.A.
*  Part of the vessel occupied by each passenger during the voyage:  Steerage

It appears that James Richman was accompanied by a Saml Richman (age 22, and engineer).  This is probably Samuel Rich, the youngest son of John and Rebecca (Hill) rich of Hilperton, Wiltshire.  James Richman's wife was Hannah Rich, daughter of John and Rebecca (Hill) rich, and Samuel's sister.

The source citation for this record (using the RootsMagic source template for "Immigration-Emigration Rolls, Images") is:

"New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957," digital image, Ancestry.com (http://www.ancestry.com : accessed 8 July 2010), image 477 of 565, Line 23, James Richman entry; citing List Number 1037 of National Archives Microfilm Publication M237, Roll 157; Ship Calhoun out of Liverpool, Daniel H. Truman master, arrived New York on 22 October 1855.

James Richman was only 24 years old when he emigrated from Wiltshire.  His wife and children arrived a year later on another ship and joined him in Rhode Island where he worked in a woolen mill.
