Best of the Genea-Blogs - 28 September to 4 October 2014

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Overwhelmed?  Here's Five Steps to Help and Overwhelmed? Let's Talk Priorities by Karen Krugman on the Genealogy Frame of Mind blog.  Aren't we all?  Karen has suggestions.

*  The Confusion of Family Names on Some Official Documents by Wayne Shepheard on the Discover Genealogy blog.  Wayne describes the solution to this confusing problem.

*  Ask Ancestry Anne: Is the Family Civil War Story True? by Anne Mitchell on the Ancestry.com Blog.  Anne uses online records to confirm this family story.

*  Yakety Yak ~ Online Genealogy CHAT! by Tami Mize on the WikiChicks blog.  Tami highlights the opportunities available to chat online.

*  How I Solved the Hannah Andrews Brick Wall by Diane Boumenot on the One Rhode Island Family blog.  Follow along as Diane works through the records to solve her research problem.

*  My Genealogical Sabbatical Year by Jennifer Shoer on The Scrappy Genealogist blog.  What a superb idea - where would you go on sabbatical to research your genealogy.

*  8 Reasons Why You Can't Find Find Newspapers by Kenneth R. Marks on The Ancestor Hunt blog.  Ken shares the reasons.

*  Claudia Breland: Interview With An Author by Jill Morelli on the Genealogy Certification: My Personal Journal blog.  Jill met up with Claudia and interviewed her about her research and new book.

*  In Search of Victoria Ardella's Family by Angela Y. Walton-Raji on the My Ancestor's Name blog.  Angela and friends pursued Courtney Vance's grandmother's ancestry with interesting results.

*  Wednesday Spotlight:  Angela Packer McGhee by Tami Mize on the WikiChicks blog.  Tami interviews Angela about her research and her educational activities.

Thank you, Randy, for including my Hannah Andrews Lamphere story. I was thinking, from reading your previous post, about Devier Lamphere. Have you ever seen anything through DNA testing? My mom is on Ancestry DNA and will be on Family Tree DNA in a couple of months. I'd be interested to see if any match shows up at all (that would be fairly random, at this distance). Just a thought!
