Seavers in the News - Joseph R. Seaver Dies in 1922 in Portland, Oregon

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a semi-regular feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Portland [Ore.] Oregonian newspaper dated 24 January 1922:

The transcription of this funeral notice is:

"SEAVER -- In this city, January 22, Joseph R. Seaver, aged 80 years, father of Mrs. H.L. Angevine of Moline, Ill.; C.L. Seaver, Kingfisher, Okla., and Mrs. T.E. Seaver, Beaver, Okla.; Mrs. Esther Seymour, Mrs. Sadie Walker and Mrs. Ida Wheaton of Orange, Cal.  The funeral services will take place at the conservatory chapel of the East Side Funeral Directors, 414 East Alder street, today at 2 P.M.  Friends invited.  Interment, Rose City cemetery."

"Funeral Notices," funeral notice, Oregonian [Portland, Ore.], 24 January 1922, page 13, Joseph R. Seaver funeral notice; GenealogyBank (http://www.genealogybank.com : accessed 28 March 2018), Newspaper Archives collection.

This funeral notice is rich in family names, but most of them are with initials and married surnames. I had them all in my RootsMagic family tree database:

I have Joseph Rial Seaver (1841-1922) in my database, son of Joseph Seaver and Sally Dodge.  He married Martha Rush Frey (1843-1910) in 1863 in Illinois, and they had five children, but only three were living when Joseph died in 1922:

*  Mae Seaver (1865-1946), who married Harry Lewis Angevine (1865-1930).
*  Charles Harvey Seaver (1869-1932), who married Lydia Adelaide Crawford (1870-1936)
*  Sara Frey Seaver (1879-1966), who married Thomas Everett Dwier (1868-1956).

The living siblings of Joseph R. Seaver mentioned in the notice were:

*  William Henry Seaver (1844-1923) who married Arey Permelia Chambers (1847-1911) in 1865.
*  Charles Tinker Seaver (1849-1923) who married Sara Matilda Lancaster (1853-1901) in 1873.
*  Esther Elizabeth Seaver (1832-1923) who married Daniel T. Seymour (1831-1894) in 1854.
*  Sarah Mazilla "Sadie" Seaver (1851-1929) who married Charles Walker (1829-1881) in 1871.
*  Ida Eva Seaver (1858-1940) who married Childs D. Wheaton (1858-1919) in 1880.

I am not related to Joseph Rial Seaver.  He is descended from Henry Seaver (1740-1810) and Elizabeth LNU (1747-1777), who were in Scott County, Virginia in the 1770s.  Their son, Jacob Seaver (1773-1824) married Esther Croberger (1780-1854) in 1799, and moved to Switzerland County, Indiana.  Their son was Joseph Seaver (1805-1885), who settled in Rock Island County, Illinois.
