Monday Genea-Pourri - 27 August 2018

Here are some of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Did quite a bit of searching for Seaver folks on Ancestry.com using RootsMagic WebHints and on Newspapers.com, including the family highlighted in Seavers in the News -- Ex-Owego N.Y. Police Chief Russell B. Seaver Dies in 1960.   Also found Veldora Seaver's maiden name - Hamilton - in A Maiden Name for Veldora (--?--) Seaver (1857-1926).

2) Participated in the Mondays With Myrt webinar today on the panel, and contributed to the discussion on Findmypast, on genealogy society programs, newsletters and skills, my Veldora Seaver's maiden name study, and podcasts etc.

3)  Watched two webinars on Family Tree Webinars -- "GPS: Finding Your Way Through Tough Research Problems" by James Ison (excellent case study!); and "Logic and deduction: Part of the Genealogical Proof Standard" by Shellee Morehead.

4)  Did not add any more charts to the presentation for my project researching the ancestry of a local personality, which I will present at the CVGS Family History Day in September with him and his family in attendance.  The presentation is about 95% done now, but will need to be pared down.  I did not work on this RootsMagic family tree during the week, which still has 556 persons with 1,617 citations.

5)  Started (finally!) the DNA Overview presentation to be given on 29 September at the CVGS Family History Day.
Have added about 60 slides and am about 65% finished with it.  I need to finish the presentation by the end of the month, polish it up and pare it down, and create the handout by the middle of September.

6) There were several sessions working in RootsMagic to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other database families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 25,606 of my persons with FSFT.  I now have 50,619 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 95,722 source citations.   I TreeShared thrice during the last week, and resolved over 600 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 73,855 waiting to be resolved, but I work on them occasionally.

7)  Have 301 Shared Ancestors on my AncestryDNA list (I had 301 last week), 967 4th cousins or closer (I had 961 last week), and 876 pages (over 43,750 matches with at least 6 cM) (was 866 pages last week) of  matches.  I have 23 DNA Circles (was 24 last week).  I have 16 matches that are third cousins or closer, and 103 matches with 34 cM (0.5%) or more (was 104 last week).  My highest match has 779 cM (11.5%), and is one of my first cousins.  I received my updated ethnicity estimate last week and wrote about it in
My Updated AncestryDNA Ethnicity Estimate:

8)  Have 4,384 DNA Matches on MyHeritage (up from 4,355 last week) with at least 8 cM (0.12%), with 25 matches with more than 34 cM (0.5%) or more (was 25 last week).  I have three close relatives, including a first cousin once removed, and two first cousins twice removed.  The highest DNA match is 512 cM (7.1%).

9)  Have 987 DNA Relatives on 23andMe (I had 985 last week) who share at least 0.10% (7 cM) with me.  The two closest relatives are third cousins.  Of these, only 3 share 1.0% or more, and 47 share 0.50% or more (was 47 last week), with the highest match being 1.54%. My highest match is an adoptee.  I struggle to find out anything about most of these testers.

10)  Have 2,752 autosomal DNA Matches on FamilyTreeDNA (up from 2,743 last week) who share 0.25% (18 cM) or more, with the highest match being 96 cM (1.42%).  I have 12 who share at least 1.0% (68 cM) with me, and 1,486 who share at least 0.50% (34 cM) or more (was 1,484 last  week) with me.

11) Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was "
Amanuensis Monday - Post 442: 1844 Land Deed of David Auble in Sussex County, New Jersey" with over 427 views.
