1733 Death of John Pray in Smithfield, R.I. - Post 427 for Treasure Chest Thursday

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - a chance to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1733 death record of John Pray in the Smithfield, Rhode Island Town Records:

The death record is near the bottom of the P list:

The transcription of the death record is:

"1-61  PRAY, John, died                              Oct. 9, 1733"

The source citation for this record is:

"Rhode Island, Vital Records Extracts, 1636-1899," indexed database and digital image, Ancestry.com (http://www.ancestry.com : accessed 29 August 2018), Volume 03: Providence County, Bierths, Marriages, Deaths, Smithfield Births and Deaths, page 111 (image 459 of 473), John Pray death entry.

This record is a transcription of the Smithfield, Rhode Island town records.  The original record is probably in one of the Smithfield town record books, if they are extant.  I checked the FamilySearch Catalog and did not see a useful original or derivative record book - perhaps I missed it.  The author of this book set, James Arnold, indexed many, if not all, of the available town record books in the 1893 to 1912 period.

John Pray (1653-1733) was the son of Richard and Mary (--?--) Pray who came to Providence before 1653.  He married Sarah Brown (1662-1733), the daughter of John and Mary (Holmes) Brown of Providence, in 1678 in Providence.  They resided in Providence and Smithfield, Rhode Island.

John and Sarah (Brown) Pray are my 7th great-grandparents.  I am descended from their son Richard Pray (1683-1755), who married Rachel --?-- (1685-1755), probably in Providence in about 1723, and resided in Scituate, Rhode Island..
