Monday Genea-Pourri - 7 January 2019

Here is a summary of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past two weeks:

1)  Attended the "GEDmatch Demonstration, Part 2" at the CVGS Saturday Workshop on 5 January.  Tim demonstrated how to log in, upload your raw DNA file, and find all of the different ethnicity estimates.  He seems to think that they are all accurate and helps clients figure out their ethnicity.  

2)  Attended the CVGS board meeting on Wednesday, 2 January.  Reported on my activities with the Newsletter, the Research Group, and the DNA Interest Group.  Suggested several new newsletter features, and changes to the format of the Research Group.

3)  Wrote, edited, copied and distributed the January 2019 issue of the CVGS Newsletter, with ten pages, and including two of the new features.

4)  Transcribed another deed for Amanuensis Monday - 1833 Deed of Stow Hildreth to Zachariah Hildreth in Townsend, Mass.  I have several more to do in this series.

5)  As part of the 52 Ancestors series, I found that my 6th great-grandfather Johann Nicolaus Konig (Nicholas King) of York, Pennsylvania wrote a will.  I found it on FamilySearch and used it for Amanuensis Monday - Will and Letters Testamentary for Nicholas King Estate in York, Pennsylvania today.

6)  Watched on Family Tree Webinar this past week - Focused Research vs. Information Overload by DearMYRTLE and Russ Worthington.

7)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt webinar.  We discussed genealogy society sponsored webinars, Findmypast new mobile app and tree hints, using RootsMagic WebHints, the upcoming WikiTree Scan-a-thon, organizing information in our offices and computers (everybody committed to do one organization activity in the next three weeks), using Evernote, photo stands for documents and artifacts, and DNA Painter.  I committed to better organize my DNA match list, chromosome segments, and match autoclusters.

8) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 28,507 of my RM persons with FSFT.  I continue to use Web Hints from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 52,003 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 99,798 source citations.   I TreeShared two times during the last week (about 200 profiles), and resolved about 400 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 90,095 waiting to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

9)  I decided to cover the DNA statistics monthly rather than weekly in my Genea-Pourri post.

10)  Spent several hours each compiling the blog posts for:

*  Top 40 Most Viewed Posts in 2018 on Genea-Musings
*  Genealogy Industry Benchmark Numbers for 1 January 2019
*  Randy's Autosomal DNA Ethnicity and Match List Summary - 1 January 2019
*  Selected Genealogy Website Alexa Traffic Rankings - 3 January 2019

11) Wrote 20 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which two were press releases.  The most popular post last week was Selected Genealogy Website Alexa Traffic Rankings - 3 January 2019 with over 303 views.
