Monday Genea-Pourri - 29 April 2019

Here is a summary of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) general meeting on Wednesday, featuring Toni Perrone speaking on "Prussia and Its Changing Borders."  This was all about history and maps and was well done.  Toni is an expert in German and Italian research.

2)  Taught the fourth and last class of my "Beginning Computer Genealogy" course at OASIS (a senior adult education center) on Thursday.  We covered creating reports in genealogy tree software, the genealogical proof standard, effective search techniques, and a DNA testing and analysis overview.  

3)  Moderated the monthly San Diego Genealogical Society RootsMagic User Group on Saturday at the San Diego FamilySearch Library.  We had 10 attendees, including three beginners with RootsMagic.  In this class, we concentrated on the basics - using the Help button, learning from the RootsMagic YouTube channel, data entry, naming conventions, creating reports and charts, etc.

4)  Found seven more deeds on FamilySearch for Zachariah Hildreth between 1847 and 1859, and transcribed the 1843 deed of James Hildreth for land in Townsend, Mass. to  3rd great-grandfather Zachariah Hildreth for Amanuensis Monday.

5)  Wrote and posted a biography of 6th great-grandfather #452 Johannes Trimmer of Germany and New Jersey for my 52 Ancestors post on Friday.  

6)  Watched one Family Tree Webinar - Comparing the Genealogy Giants: Ancestry.com, FamilySearch, Findmypast and MyHeritage 2019 edition, by Sunny Morton.  Excellent!7)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt on Zoom (which will go on YouTube later).  Today's webinar discussed SAR/DAR applications, Massachusetts Catholic cemeteries, the FamilyTreeLive conference in England, the up coming THE Genealogy Show, Jamboree and FGS conferences, Findmypast tree news, WikiTree, Evidence Explained source discussion, and the Wayback Machine.  

7) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 30,704 of my RootsMagic persons with FSFT.

8)  I continue to use Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 53,503 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 104,095 source citations.   I TreeShared twice  this week updating 395 profiles, and I resolved about 735 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 110,044 to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

9) Wrote 17 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was 52 Ancestors - Week 275: #452 Johannes Trimmer (1700-1750) of Germany and Hunterdon County, New Jersey with over 310 views.
