Monday Genea-Pourri - 15 July 2019

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Research Group at the Chula Vista Civic Center Library, with 16 in attendance.  I discussed my upcoming talk at SDGS, my Isaac Lanfear War of 1812 pension file, and the new Ancestry Hints feedback feature, plus how to use quick and dirty trees on Ancestry to find links to DNA matches.

2)  Was the feature speaker at the San Diego Genealogical Society meeting on Saturday with 95 in attendance.  I presented two new talks - "Randy's Top Ten Genealogy Search Tips" and "Using Collaborative 'Big' Trees."  This was the annual ice cream social and I had three scoops.

3)  Watched one Legacy Family Tree webinar -- How to Better Manage Your MyHeritage Web Site, by Daniel Horowitz.

5)  Wrote and posted a biography of 5th great-grandfather #242 Abraham Dafoe (1755-1815) for my 52 Ancestors post on Friday.

6) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 31,551 of my RootsMagic persons with FSFT.

7)  I continue to use Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 54,021 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 106,463 source citations.   I TreeShared once this week updating 202 profiles, and I resolved 787 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 113,367 to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

8) Wrote 16 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which one was a press release.  The most popular post last week was
Amanuensis Monday -- 1808 Mortgage Deed of Nathan Gates to Merari Spaulding in Gardner, Massachusetts with over 566 views.

Randy was your new presentation filmed? Can we watch Randy's Top Ten Genealogy Search Tips presentation somewhere ?

No, the two presentations were not filmed or videoed. None of our local San Diego societies do that.
