Monday Genea-Pourri - 29 July 2019

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society By-Laws Review Committee meeting to review and revise the society By-Laws, Standing Rules, and Standard Operating Procedures.  This committee last met two years ago.  The revisions will reflect the best practices of the society, officers and board members.  I am Research/Queries chair, and also the Newsletter Editor.  At this first meeting, we discussed the status of the society, the society goals, reviewed and suggested revisions to the By-Laws, Standing Rules, President, and 2nd Vice President (Membership) documents .

2)  Moderated the monthly San Diego Genealogical Society's RootsMagic Users Group meeting on Saturday at the San Diego Family History Center.  We had 16 in attendance, and discussed using Dropbox, Backup and Restore, making a list of burials at a cemetery, setting relationships, finding relationships between two persons, making a relationship chart, RootsMagic 8, color coding tree segments, finding database problems, creating source citations, using the quality measures, and much more.

3)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt webinar, and acted as a opinionated panelist.  Subjects discussed included Cheri Passey's GenFriends YouTube channel; Holly Hansen's upcoming International Family History Expo online conference (5 to 10 August); Pat Reynolds' updated FreeBMD, FreeREG and FreeCEN websites of user-indexed England/Wales civil registration, parish registers and census records; Pat Kuhn's search for an 1870 Philadelphia birth record on FamilySearch; FamilySearch is adjusting place names to reflect accurate jurisdictions on some of their collections; and Russ Worthington's blog posts about the 1950 plance crash in the family orchard and Coast Guard ship logs now online.

3)  Watched one Legacy Family Tree webinar -- Should You Take the Hint? Automatic Record Hinting on the Giant Genealogy Websites, by Sunny Morton.

4)  Wrote and posted a biography of 6th great-grandfather #496 Frederick Zafrin/Sovereign (1714-1805) for my 52 Ancestors post on Friday.

6) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 31,748 of my RootsMagic persons with FSFT.

7)  I continue to use Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 54,119 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 107,223 source citations.   I TreeShared twice this week updating 260 profiles, and I resolved 874 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 113,856 to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

9) Wrote 20 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which five were press releases.  The most popular post last week was
Ancestry On the Record - Member Tree Profiles Add All Parent Relationships  with over 442 views.
