Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 27 April 2020

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society monthly meeting via Zoom, featuring Nancy Loe of Sassy Jane Genealogy presenting "Organize Like an Archivist" and  "Picture This: Cataloging Digital Family Photos."  This went well, with a break between presentations and many questions asked and answered.

2)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt on Zoom.  We discussed King's Day in Holland, Green genealogy, online translation tools, U.S. colorized yearbooks, the population genetics RootsTech presentation, WorldCat and OCLC, German maps, and the BLM land system.

3)  Watched the Family Tree Webinar Decoding Social Security: Providing Benefits to our Ancestors. by Michael Strauss.

4)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of 7th great-grandfather #538 Thomas Allen  (1690-1777) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

5)  Transcribed the 1795 will of Mehitabel Brigham (1726-1795) of Westborough, Mass.  for Amanuensis Monday.

6)  Found more Seaver church and civil (birth, marriage and death) records on Ireland collections at https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

7)  Added Notes to about 10 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors.  Added two AncestryDNA ThruLines to the RootsMagic family tree database.  Reviewed new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

8) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 35,382 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 68).

9)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 57,132 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 99) , and 119,320 source citations (up 165).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree two times this week updating 282 profiles, and I resolved 1,346 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 128,781 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

10)  Wrote 20 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which three were a press release.  The most popular post last week was AncestryDNA Adds DNA Match Tree Icon to Ancestry Member Tree Profiles with over 666 views.

11)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much.  I went to the grocery store on Tuesday and Friday and it wasn't too busy.  I took Linda for a wheelchair ride around the neighborhood in the sun on Friday.  I watched the church choir and pastor's sermon on YouTube on Sunday.   We may go out for dinner to a drive-through some night soon.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing genealogy.
