2020 FGS Conference Registration is Now Open - Kansas City 2-5 September 2020

I received this information from FGS recently:

===============================================
2020 FGS CONFERENCE REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN
Register now for the 2020 FGS Family History Conference in Kansas City, MO
5/1/2020 – Austin, TX.  Online registration is now open for the Federation of Genealogical Societies’ 2020 National Conference.  The conference is scheduled to be held September 2-5 at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, MO. This year's local host is the Mid-Continent Public Library’s Midwest Genealogy Center and the theme is "Blazing Trails in the Heart of America."  Register before July 1, 2020 for the early-bird discount. Register before June 1, 2020, using the discount code FGS-Strong and receive an additional $10 off the early-bird price. The program and registration is available online at https://fgs.org/annual-conference/.

We are very mindful of the public health concerns related to COVID-19. We are hopeful that our last annual conference will not be affected by it, but we recognize the seriousness of this pandemic and acknowledge that much uncertainty still exists regarding its impact on the public in coming months. Our top priority is the well-being of all individuals who will be attending and supporting our event. Consequently, we are continually monitoring the situation related to COVID-19, nationwide and in our 2020 host city of Kansas City, Missouri.

Faye Stallings, FGS President, shares, “FGS Conferences offer genealogists of all skill levels an incredible learning opportunity as well as a chance to meet others who share their passion. We are pleased to offer four full days of learning on a variety of topics, including our signature society-focused lectures. We have something to offer everyone, whether you are a beginner or you’ve been doing family history for decades.

"Because of the upcoming merger of FGS and the National Genealogical Society, this will offer a unique opportunity to celebrate the past successes of FGS and celebrate the future of the combined organization with its continued focus on supporting societies and records preservation. We will be watching the situation with COVID-19 closely and with hope that the fun-filled, celebratory experience we have planned for you can go on.”

Conference Highlights

Keynote Speakers
We will kick-off the week with two keynote speakers. First, John Dougan, Missouri State Archivist, best known for his work to provide online access to genealogical records, will emphasize the conference theme by sharing thoughts in “Beyond the Wagon Ruts, Finding the Trail Less Traveled.”

John will be followed by David Rencher, Director of the Family History Library and Chief Genealogical Officer for FamilySearch. In his humorous way, David will share his memories of FGS’s greatest accomplishments as well as provide a peek into the exciting future of FGS as it prepares to merge with the National Genealogical Society (NGS).

Conference Sessions
Learning opportunities abound in the FGS 2020 program. The program includes four full days of
sessions, workshops, and interactive seminars. Learning tracks include DNA, Methodology, Midwest,
Military, Technology, Society Management, and more. Attendees of all skill levels will find new ways to uncover more about their family history.

Exhibit Hall
The large exhibit hall will feature the latest software, books, maps, databases, and gadgets on the market for family historians. Learn also about how genealogy societies and other organizations in our Virtual Society Showcase can help attendees with their family history.

Special Events
The last annual meeting of FGS will be held Wednesday evening, where society delegates will have the opportunity to cast their vote in support of the merger of FGS and NGS. Following the Annual Meeting, we’ll have the ever-popular “Society Shout-out,” an opportunity for society leaders to share the exciting projects and activities their societies are involved in. Following the Society Shout-out, a reception for society leaders sponsored by NGS will provide a great networking opportunity to talk with your peers and meet the leaders of FGS and NGS. On Friday night you should plan to enjoy some of Kansas City’s most beloved activities—eating barbecue and enjoying jazz music—as we celebrate together as friends and look forward to the future of FGS.

Librarians’ Day
Tuesday, September 1, is the pre-conference event sponsored by ProQuest to be held at the Mid-Continent Public Library. Librarians, archivists, and other information professionals won't want to miss this event. It will be a full day of sessions focused on serving family history researchers.

Sponsors
We would like to thank our Platinum sponsors, Ancestry.com and FamilySearch, for their continued
support.
