1940 Wedding Photo of Ed and Janet (Roukes) Seaver -- Post 666 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday

 I can't help it, I can't do a wordless post! This is one of my favorite colorized photographs:

This photograph is from 10 August 1940 in Leominster, Massachusetts.  The occasion is the marriage of my uncle, Edward Richmond Seaver (1913-2004) to Janet Arleen Roukes (1913-2002).  The setting is probably at the Chocksett Inn in nearby Sterling, Massachusetts.  

Janet is the woman in the bridal veil on the left, talking to an older man, Ed is the white suit to the right of Janet kissing an older woman, I don't know who the matron of honor is in the middle, and the tall guy - the "best man" - in the white suit on the right is my father, Frederick Walton Seaver (1911-1983).  

Every time I see this photo, I can almost hear my father saying "I'm older, I should be the one getting married, why won't Mary's dad let me marry her?"  He left Leominster in December 1940 for San Diego and never went back.

My brother Scott and I visited Leominster in 1990 to participate in and enjoy seeing the family the 50th wedding anniversary - we visited the St. Mark's church and Chocksett Inn (actually stayed there a night) and stayed for another week visiting with everyone except Ed and Janet.  I did some genealogy in cemeteries and libraries, of course, and Scott wanted to visit Cheers.  It was 31 years ago and it just seems like yesterday!

This photograph was originally black-and-white and I colorized it and enhanced using the MyHeritage InColor photo tools.
